They'll be fine, just let them air out for a few weeks before you use them.
Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

In "NEWT'S WORLD" You ruined them. Now they will rust on the inside.
I understand this. . . but, how do you remove the oil smell from them? I've always viewed snares as a throwaway tool, one and done use, so I never worried about them rusting out inside. Stored in a dry environment over the off season I always figured they shouldn't rust out bad enough to be a problem during the season. I would prefer them not to, so I'm asking an honest question, what do you do to remove oil and other contaminant smells?

Thats enough to get the shine off and if it rains, it will take enough of the oil, but not all, to let it take dye/paint. Out west you probbably dont get enough rain during the season to worry about rust but east of the big muddy, it can be problematic. You can FMJ them to hide the smell and protect the cable.

I've had refusals with spray painted snares that I painted in October and set Jan.1. If you paint in August hang them in the sun exposed to weather so they air out then you'll be fine. I know use formula 1 brown with zero issues, they blend well in all environments and the cure quick without odors. Formula one seems to break the oil down on the outer surface. I want the cables that didn't make catches to last. Personally I dilute more than the directions suggest and dip 2x. Hang em in a tree till I need them fully exposed to the weather.
Common sense catches alot of fur.. Pay homage to all you harvest..
