I am writing an article on trends and the future of our industry. Any thoughts, opinions, prognostications, gripes, fantasies, technology developments, doom and gloom, the end times, etc. No need to offer a reason but all will be considered. Thank you for your thoughts.

Our industry will continue to grow as the general population becomes more affluent and separated from nature.

How are you doing Phil. I have been wondering how you and Edith have been?

This clueless, live in a bubble Mr. Rogers generation will keep me busy trapping and educating those that don't believe that nature/wildlife wants to take advantage of their living space.

House , sheds , decks, pools, etc. Dogs, cats, ducks, geese, chickens you name it . LOL

The dumber they are the more I make $$$. Fur trapping is going to take a hit incrementally. As it does wildlife interaction complaints will rise as they always do.

Whenever someone tells me that the animals were here first I ask how old their house is because this raccoon/mole/skunk/etc. isn’t that old lol.

I think the future is bright for my area. All the Cali folk are coming in waves.

once you go trap, you never come back

The outfit that I have been working at for 19 years has grown leaps and bounds with no end in site.
The problem we are having is finding new employees who have ever been outside before.

Now that is an interesting observation. Almost all of our techs live outside our service area. They're rural.

I believe as markets fizzle out the trapping Lifestyle, the residential animal control business will grow. This will also lead to increased regulation and oversight.

As time goes on, there will be more conflicts with beavers. Rather than turning to private individuals, I think more beaver work will be picked up by government contracts.

Of course there are exceptions, but generally speaking, I think that’s the direction we’re heading.

Man has created many of the unnatural environments in which we and animals now live. Due to miles of cornfields and cities with abundant food sources in dumpsters etc., no doubt there are more raccoons than there ever would have been in a natural world, our creation. Beaver populations explode, growing at 30+% per year with no predation from wolves, bears, mountain lions, an unnatural environment. With that said, there is only one way to keep numbers in check, trapping from ADC guys as the fur market weakens. It's only going to get better for anyone willing to work. Glad I didn't let my father push me out of trapping all those years ago. Happy to part of this industry that has been so lucrative and rewarding. Always a great feeling when animal problems are solved.
