I'm just starting to get back into trapping after many years. My question is how much wax is needed to wax half a dozen traps?

Lots to read in the Trap prep archive. I use a kettle full of wax so I can submerge the traps. It doesn't take much to wax that many but you have to buy a lot to fill your pot the first time. If you only have a few trap maybe you should consider using spray paint and then hang them to air out for a few weeks

You can get a skinny pot that requires less wax…..but then you can only do a trap or two at a time. Get a pot you can fit 4 traps in totally submerged with the wax still less than 3/4 the way up the pot and figure out how many pounds of trap wax you need. You can gauge how many pounds you need by looking at the one pound paraffin boxes. Just figure how many you need to fill the pot over the traps. I use trap wax , not paraffin, but it’s a good way to gauge amounts. Wax expands some when you melt it. You’ll need an extra pound to add as you wax over the years. If you do it right, there hardly any wax on the traps. Make sure the pot has a good top so you can store it for next year. I also wrap it up in a small trash bag for storage.

You just have to get a container that you can submerge the trap completely in and use enough wax to fully cover it. it takes very little wax to cost the traps, how much wax you need depends on the size of the tub.
