Anyone else find themselves mowing trails for trapping when brush hogging? I mow all of the roads at my farm a few times a summer and like to create intersections for the coyotes.

It's worked for me and I seem to be doing more and more of it.

Headed back out now to do some more.

My buddies farm that I trap is all CRP, just talked to him yesterday and he's getting ready to go do the yearly mowing of trails through the fields and asked me where I wanted paths cut, hoping it helps us this season

Yep, I mow irregular edges in the powerlines where I trap. In places too rough to bushhog on of my favorites things to do is ride the four wheeler in travel areas and create two track paths. I'm careful to ride in the same tracks to keep the paths tight as possible. It sets the trail up for snares and blind sets. I only ride it enough to keep the path open. Now is the time to start so they are traveled by the time the season rolls around.

Not here. It’s tough to mow big sagebrush, and the BLM frowns on it

I was in Northern New Mexico recently and was thinking about you guys west of us. It looks like a totally different skill set is for sure needed.

I use a weed wacker and I also use round up to make trails. I'm using Crs so I what a snare sized trail.

What I did last year on a farm I trap, the owner has a very large clear cut on the property. While he was in town to work on his farm he rented a skid steer with a mulcher to do some other projects. Well after he finished one afternoon I took the the skid steer and mulched a straight path across the clear cut. In the center of the clear cut I cut out an opening about 30ft in diameter. Once deer season came in all my gut piles went to the center to the small opening. Then I set the path coming from both directions. The path is about 300-400 yards in length. It seems like a lot of work but it really wasn’t. Took me about 2 hours and now I’ll just run the tractor and bushhog through it this year right before deer season.
