Brain Fart! I know what it is, but can't nail down the name. Grrr. Roadside plant, has a small pretty yellow flower, spreads by seed like crazy. It will come to me later.

Without seeing the leaves, it looks like wild lettuce. It has a milky sap.

Fireweed (Erechtites hieraciifolius) possibly, or horseweed (Erigeron canadensis). Looks more like fireweed but I could be wrong. Hard to tell with no leaves.

You can rule out Fire Weed. Pay attention to the scientific name. Many plants have common names are the same, that's where that scientific name comes into play. I think that you are thinking of the purple flowered fireweed, that would be Chamaenerion angustifolium. I am talking about Erechtites hieraciifolius. After looking into that species further it is also called American burnweed or pilewort.

This is wild lettuce from my farm. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2021/08/full-11798-105330-0821211746e_1.jpg) The lowest leaves are gone already. When the plant is young, it resembles domestic, leaf lettuce. It's got much more latex than domestic lettuce. It's a mild hallucinogen, that some people use medically. Keith
