Would 1/8" drowning cable work as a sliding cable on land? Would a coyote be able to tear it up enough to get free?
Using as a means to hide any catches in nearby cover.
Recommendations on anything better suited?

1/8 is fine. Just make sure the cable is tight when you stake it down or you can have issues with stake pumping with short chains

Thank you sir for your reply. I appreciate it. Just wanted to make sure as I've never had a need for them until now.

You might want to consider #2 chain as an option with a Hagz Universal lock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0tTePSZt4A

It has to be TAUT if it’s cable. Maybe for chains too, I can’t speak for them, but if it’s cable.... TAUT!

If you get it taut, you should be fine. When I use cable, I use adjustable cable slider/drowners. I also use 7x19, almost exclusively, and it helps a lot.

Good luck

Ive taken several coyote on purpose with 1/8" cable sliders. Stake the end well or use an earth anchor or you will end up with a gigantic catch circle and mess of cable.
Used to be one of my favorite ways to trap them out in open near roads. Cjust needed a weedy ditch through a picked bean field where they were working the edge. Catch em up top, slide them into the ditch out of sight.took a jillion coon this way too. Out of sight from spotlighted and headlights too.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I use sliders on nearly all of the fences I snare to avoid tearing up the fence. All I use is 10-15’ of 1/8” cable. I recommend staking at least 1 end of the slider with a chained earth anchor. A coyote can pump steel stakes out of them pretty easily. I usually stake the top end with smooth rod and the terminal end with chain stake. Not had one pull the terminal end yet. Had several pump stakes with smooth rod on each end.

Be careful with your lock selection. Not sure what you’re using. The L locks will not hold hold up on coyotes. Crunch proof swivels are ok but get wore out and tear up cable faster. 1/8 Cam locks are the ticket for the sliding mechanism

Thank for the lock tip. Ive been using end hole in crunch proofs for years. Might give the cams a try this year instead.
