Want to build my own wider 330's. Over lap the extension bars and weld, or use sleeves over cut ends and weld. Or just buy ready made wide 330s. Welding is not a problem.

I would go with the sleeves If you can find them.

Sleeves are the easiest way to do it. One guy gave me some he made for converting 155s that I think lathed out of rod. You don't want a hollow (if it's hollow, insert a piece of rod to fill, sleeve or you can risk bending.

When I said sleeves, I was thinking 3 inch or so tubes to slip tight over existing trap jaws after cutting. Then adding rod same diameter as jaw material, to all 4 jaws. welding those in place. Seen some home built wide 330's that had a extra kill bar also. Seems a 2 inch over lapped jaw, welded would work also if I cleaned up sharp edges.

bring a sample of the jaw material with you to a parts/hardware store/implement shop and try to find a spring pin (roll pin) to use as a sleeve.

I would think the metal of a roll pin/spring pin to be too brittle. I have had many crack and break being driven in. Going to measure jaw thickness of a Duke 330 today, then stop by and see my machinist buddy. Running a big sawmill, you become good friends with the local fabricator/machinist. Probably should just buy some 1216 traps. But will cut a old Duke up to try.

I used steel break line and cut it to length. Dry assemble then braze together. Use high carbon round stock for your extentions. Standard round stock is too soft and will bend.

generally the spring pin will anneal when welded so no fracturing. brake line would work fine if thick enough walled. scout is correct,,,no hot rolled steel for this project.
