Thinking of replacing chain with cable. Any of y'all that have done this care to share their set up?

I like a piece of chain about 16" and than a 6' chunk of cable with a tree lock. I hate trying to get a piece of cable to stay under water at a trap. What do you think you would gain going all cable?

If I could quick connect at the site with cable I figure I could avoid tangled chain.

Wrap the chain and the cable around the trap. Use about four inches of 14 ga wire to tie the end to the jaw or spring.

I remove the chain if they come with one. They tend to cause monumental tangles in the bed of the truck with chains on them.

I've gone to 6-8 feet of cable with a flat stake swivel on the end. Can either stake with rebar or wrap and clip to a tree, etc. If you have any otter, add another swivel or two inline.

When done, wrap the cable around the trap a few times and push the stake end through the trap eye. Keeps everything put (most times).

I use 6’ of 1/8 7x7 with a smacked down double feral to hold the eye of the spring. The anchoring end of the affair is a simple clasp. The key to anchoring is simple rigging principals. Don’t put 100% of the load on the bitter end of your attachment.
