I know 120s are harder to set than 110s but if you are willing to put up with that is there any specific reason that you should buy 110s instead of 120s? I guess Iím curious if the extra spring makes it harder for the animal to set it off?

Been watching some of Sam Woods videos and his mink box has my attention.

As always thanks for the replies and the knowledge I have gained from here.

You can carry more 110ís is one advantage. Same argument for the single spring 160 vs double. Some people like the extra power of the double. I do when not used in the water where drowning will occur. You can make any bg more/less sensitive.

Thank you for the reply. I was watching his videos of using them in mink boxes and he said occasionally he would get a raccoon in one and the 120 would ďhandleĒit better than a 110. Iím just not sure how much I would use a water set.

Single spring BG versus a double spring BG. A double spring BG Is much easier to stabilize then a single spring BG.

I would only use a 110 submerged. They are inadequate for killing animals on land. You will get fur damage on mink from rubbing on the jaws struggling for extended period of time.Poor clamping force and very poor striking force.
Also,120's,like beav said are easier to stabilize.

If your all ready have 110's just buy the extra springs, and put them on your 110's I converted all my 110 to 120's. They extra spring is real easy to put on, with a vise. Easier to stabilize, and you have the killing power for a coon if it gets in your mink set. Also they are ready for marten.

Your best marten trap is the LDL b 120 magnum.Belisle 120 super x and sauvageau 2001-5 are also excellent marten traps.

I switched to mag Belisles years ago, and never looked back.
Tried the ""add a spring" to 3-4 dozen 110's, but was not satisfied, at all. Spring eyes too small, or too large, add safeties to both springs, un-equal spring strength. It was money and time wasted.

Made it almost 3 years without censor!

Beav and Boco are correct from my observations. PLUS ,,,, any body (besides stupid me) ever release head caught LIVE coons from a110 by hand (who carries a setter when checking 110'S)? Up close and personal to their teeth on that chore. One hand on the spring and the other on their tail (and their hands all over yours!!!!!) .................... the mike

120's stabilize a lot easier. No doubt they are stronger and if I'm buying traps I'm going to buy the 120s. (I also don't trap rats and very little mink). But I've got some 110's around that I've had since I was knee high (first traps I ever bought myself were a dozen Victor 110's when I was 8 years old, saved up money from selling fur I had caught in hand me down traps to buy those. Had to carry a rope and a homemade safety around with me to set them) and I've never had a problem with them. Every time this comes up there are several people who point out how inadequate they are for marten, and how they will cause fur damage. Maybe, but I've caught quite a few in them over the years, and they were all hanging there dead and no signs of excess struggle, nor any fur damage. I've never had a fisher stick his head in one but I suspect they would be underpowered for them and you would get some pullouts or live fisher. Which wouldn't be a bad thing since we aren't allowed to keep fisher, here.

I don't use my 110s much anymore. If I'm setting a for a mink maybe, if I am using my 120s for marten at the time, but 120s are easier to stabilize, so I'm liable to grab one of them for mink. Caught a marten last year in one, had an old box with a very narrow spring slot on one side, made for a specific brand of 120 and I didn't have one of them along when I was setting so I threw a 110 I had in the trap box in there. Switched it out when I caught the marten, but as usual, it seemed to kill just fine and no fur damage.
