Why do some people use surgical tubing on the trigger? What size?

Because it’s not cold to the touch when they grab it and it feels like something they may be interested in. I don’t use it so I could give you a size but that’s why they use it.

Coons like the soft texture of grabbing on to something. Also reduces the gap a little between the side and the bottom of the tube to help minimize some misses. I think it has it advantages if you're just using a liquid bait but if not, I wouldn't bother. A good paste bait that sticks to the underside of the trigger works just as well for a texture variance.

Ive never done it, but if I was going to put tubing on the trigger I think I would want it to be loose but not be able to come off without the trap firing. I’m thinking that they may think it is more food if it moves around or spins a little instead of being solid like the trigger. Just a thought

A bag or two of heat shink tubing isn't too expensive. Cut a short length for trigger, heat it to form, won't come off.

I know a few guys when cut the tails off 5" twisters. Couple drops of super glue and stab the twister body on the trigger.

A raccoon, being as greedy as Pennsylvanian deer hunter, will thieve away all loose contents of a dp, only to go in one more time to find nothing to pull but the trigger.
I have caught countless raccoons in dps and have yet found any bait left in the trap once I removed the raccoon from the trap.
I can see where a rubber tube on the trigger would build confidence in a trapper to reduce misses from thieving raccoons, but I don't believe that it is necessary. I don't run into many, if any empty unsprung dps due to raccoons.

X2 never saw any advantage to anything on the trigger. If your bait is good they'll keep digging for it until they are caught.

I use surgical tubing on my triggers. I dont know if it comes in different sizes but is the size of tube on a sling shot. Was cheap and easy to put on. I have lost any tubes from falling off or stolen. Its like laminating, some will tell you you need to, others will say its a waste of time. Ill use the tubes, cheap and easy to install with a minimum amount of time used.

It's always kills me when people say "coon like it because..." Coon like it because the trigger isn't cold. Coon walk on cold rocks, cold roofs, cold machinery, frozen ponds/creeks, etc. Coon like it because it's soft and feels like little pillows on their paws. It's another gimmick in the trapping industry guys. Like jabNE said...bait em up and go. You will catch as many coon as you want to skin.
