Jail? How about an island in the gulf where they can be banished and the drug of their choice made available in unlimited supply till they kill theirselves? Or just pretend this isnt happening in America? Whats your thoughts? The war on drugs aint working folks.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Agreed! I heard the term "legislate morality" coming from the back end of a coffee shop last week which really got my attention. Basically one group of people making laws to suit themselves rather than listening to opposing opinions and working together to come up with a solution. Food for thought. But no, the war on drugs isn't working. Not even with the border wide open.

My thoughts are that my thoughts are of little aid to the unfortunate.
If you were king for a day danny, what would you do?

No solution here Mark. Seems like we do like the Philipene and start killing people or find a spot to deport them if they refuse rehab. Give all the dope they want at taxpayers expense till they are dead .

I would very much like to know what others think should be done

Legalize all of it, but life sentences for any crimes committed caused by drug addiction..... robbery, petty theft, selling to minors etc. It would keep the non-problem causers from clogging up the prison system, and keep the problem causers away from polite society forever, because they'll likely never change their ways.

It's a dilemma no doubt. It's kind of a one by one - help them one at a time situation, but the numbers are growing much too fast for any helper team to effectively handle anything resembling "most."

The things we've been taught and those ways we've told to seek pleasure as a wealthy culture
and the ways we told to try to deal with suffering and grief... by seeking certain things as a culture
are not working to lead many toward any measure of a good life.

That's all I got.

Blessings,
Mark

well when you have them legalizing dope in almost every state ,it kind of speaks to is there really a war on it , they use legalization as a anti gun tool , "we will make it legal for you to do drugs , BUUUUUT you relinquish your 2nd amendment rights" , the hypocrisy of the left has no limits and to try and rationalize it/them as a rational person will drive you mad

Here the mayor put them "Homeless" all in one city park..They all got new tents camping gear. Set up porta potties.. Got a dumpster there for them to throw their crap in. Needle drop boxes. Quit the deal..No longer a park you want go to.. Not sure which church is set up a chow line once a day I think. And they got a pantry where people can stop drop things off for them..
Real interesting concept??? It's a mess.
No idea what the answer is..

I can't even leave my truck and trailer parked at some of the boat ramps over night without getting ticket. That is where I get POed about the park being full tents.

Obviously we should set the example set for us by the supreme elected leaders of our country in D.C.

A good place to start would be drug testing for anyone on Welfare. I like many others on here have to get drug tested to go to work.
Just my 2 cents.

Leave them alone, they dont seem to be bothering anyone.
One solution would be to cut them off welfare if they cant pass a dope test.

That video is pretty wild. I've never been in a city with such blatant drug use as that. Apparently this city doesn't have or is not enforcing any drug laws since none of the users seem the least bit shy about shooting up right in front of people. It doesn't make much of a case for legalization in my mind. I doubt cities that enforce drug laws have any fewer addicts but they're not littering the streets the way these people are at least.

Forced rehab by incarceration CAN work, but it usually doesn't. Three things need to happen in order for it to. 1) They need to not be able to get any drugs of any kind in jail. 2) They have to be in there long enough to truly dry out. 30 days probably won't do it. 3) They have to want to get clean. Most people who go to jail for drugs don't want to get clean. If they're there long enough, they may begin to desire to get clean. But again, it's a slim chance. Just guessing but I'd bet it wouldn't work for 80% or more. It won't work for ANYONE that doesn't, at some point during the incarceration period decide they want to be clean.

Then when people get out of jail, most of them don't even have anywhere to go (having burned all their bridges long before) let alone a job.

I don't know. It's a sad deal and I sure don't see any easy answers.

Everyone of those individuals is a human being. Someoneís son or daughter. I donít think mom or dad wanted that for them. Itís addiction. Plain and simple. You can lead a horse to water but you canít make them drink. Same goes with changing addiction. But I do agree cut the welfare off.

These are the people who everyone says should get a job, lol.
What exactly are they qualified for?
At least a couple of them could work as yoga instructors.

Nature vs nurture. Nature always wins.

We might as well legalize. The drug laws are a waste of money and effort.

And, eliminate welfare.

I would start by setting up a panel of individuals who have been in that situation, and kicked it (for a great amount of time). Then, use their experiences/knowledge to try to create somewhat of a solution, realizing that probably a majority will not recover.

My cousin has been an addict for thirty years. Good looking guy, tall, presentable, articulate. My uncle, his dad, was a successful attorney, his mom was a school teacher. Money was not an issue. My cousin got two masters degrees, and has been in and out of rehab for twenty years. We got together 19 years ago for lunch in Wisconsin, me, him, my dad, my uncle. My cousin was living in a halfway house then, nicely dressed, but with a big scar across his face and a weird braided ďpharaohĒ goatee on his chin. He told me the scar was from fighting another bum over the food scraps in a McDonaldís bag a passing motorist threw out the window. The other bum used a broken bottle to fight for the food, and cut my cousin. But my cousin proudly said he himself ate the food, not the other guy. Within a week my cousin had bombed out of that halfway house. He was found nearly lifeless on the street, taken to a hospital in Milwaukee, had his stomach pumped, brought back to life. He lives under a bridge somewhere in Arizona now. Isnít allowed in my uncleís home, isnít welcome to any family events. He told me he liked the freedom of bum life, although he now looks like every other addict in these videos, like a living skeleton. If my cousin, highly educated, from a happy family, who has had endless money spent on dozens of rehabs to bring him back to functional, canít get away from this destructive lifestyle, then I canít imagine the odds of success for anyone else. As we see here in these Philly videos, addicts just canít stop. Itís one of the reasons China has been dumping fentanyl in America at a huge loss for ten years. Itís designed to destroy our people. And yet the open borders are ďpeace, love, light, good intentionsĒ etc. Next up will be terrorists crossing the southern border shooting rockets filled with fentanyl at us. And one political party will say itís all just a desperate act of love.
