I have had numerous game cameras out all thru the spring and summer, just checked them again today, and my wife noticed something that I had not. I am only picking up single yotes, no pairs, or mamas with pups. You would think that at least this time of year you would see, some family units moving around. Even a few pups running together starting to hunt on their own.
Even put in some baited mock sets, and the camera only picked up singles. I have picked up some fox with mamas and pups, and some pups by themselves in the last couple of weeks

Can anybody enlighten me on what is going on.

If you've got the Fox, then you don't have a lot of 'Yotes. Maybe the singles are this years pup's starting to disperse?

Spade,
About 25% of the coyotes in Michigan may be considered transitory.... as in, they have no set home range.
+ about this time of year in the UP the fall shuffle - the split up is beginning.
+ about right now the males will venture further than their mate as they begin to lock down perimeters of their territories against "intruders"
so you'd have single males and single females often on cameras.

All things in the UP coyote world begin to shuffle end of August typically.

Hope this helps.
Get 'em!

Thanks, that explains a lot. I have noticed when setting out at night, I'm hearing a lot more howling, from singles, than family units.
