I’ve been fermenting three dozen eggs for the past three months or so and I checked them today and they are looking good! They’ve got that mayonnaise texture everyone has spoken of. They have seriously got a horrible odor as one would assume a rotten egg would. My question is how well do they work for canines? This was my intended purpose for them and I was curious if anyone had used them in the past with success? [Linked Image]

I have used more egg based lures and baits probably then most. The right blend will stop them in their tracks to investigate. Add some honey, phenyl acetic acid crystals or ambrette musk to sweeten it a bit if it seems too harsh. Use a batch as is and blend some things into the other batch. See what the results are with a cam.

Our cultured egg batches have your consistency and color but not your odor..

It is no doubt very pungent! I can handle it fine as I’m used to the smells of other trapping lures I’ve purchased. But my wife walked outside as I was stirring and she almost vomited standing 15 ft away!!!

It seems temp and even humidity will have a impact on the end product when it comes to eggs if they come out soupy add some dry cat food if it too thick add fish oil or glycerin to get the base texture you want.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I think I actually read an article on here about them but was given the idea from Coyote U on YouTube. I have had a terrible time keeping the maggots out of them straining them about ever week or two. That might be in large the cause of the putrid odor!

Did the egg thing once. Cracked them into thick chili jars. Would “burp” them as they progressed. They got to where they didn’t burp a whole lot so I figured they were done. Few weeks later I went to crack the lid to see what I had and I heard a !!!POOF!!! complete with a bright yellow splash across my chest, up the side of my neck.

No more egg lure for me.

Skunks too... which is probably the most valuable animal you can trap in NC this year. Well, other than live market.

We mostly see spotted skunks in my area and very few at that!

Cultured eggs prepared correctly should smell like a smooth mild egg odor and look like a yellow egg mayonnaise when complete. A yellow/ slight tan color for the most part. No foul odor at all. Very appealing and quite edible. Excellent bait or lure ingredient. Color shades may vary slightly from bucket to bucket when it is mature.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was deemed edible for human consumption if made under more sterile conditions. My dogs would eat it if allowed. I found that out one time. The bugger licked / ate quite a bit one time out of 15 finished cultured eggs buckets that had no lids on the buckets at the time.

You have to monitor the process closely for the last few days so I keep the lids off or lightly sitting on top for easy inspection access. 11 days start to finish per batch.

I couldn't find our one dog that day and went looking. I finally found him in our facility with a round belly sleeping on the shop floor with egg on his face / whiskers. I had shut him in there when I left for a while and he didn't follow me out. I am much more careful now when they follow me in. I usually don't allow them in due to obvious reasons. Too many things to get their interest.
