Quick question about Marten & Wolf..
For the last few years I have trapped yotes, fox & cats. So I have bait for them. To include a good amount of bobcat meat. I will soon be switching &/ adding Marten & Wolf to my trapping list. so I am wondering if using the baits I already have for them as well. Instead of going out getting a bunch of beaver to stock up on.. I've read a few pages of Marten in the archive & read about the beaver. What else would possibly attract the 2 listed above. Thanks again

Jackrabbit;
Don’t know about wolves but I have trapped marten with chunked up jacks we aren’t allowed to use any part of a game animal so cottontail and snowshoe hare are not legal for bait. Beaver is only so-so here.

Some of the best marten baits besides beaver is butcher scraps from beef or moose.
Local butchers here will also cut moose for hunters,and if you ask you can get boxes of butcher scraps every few days
moosehides and bones and head is also great for wolf.If you know some moose hunters they will likely give you the scraps and hides.Ask the highway dept if they can hook you up with roadkilled large animals.
The cleanings from grouse is good for marten before it gets real cold.When it gets about 25 below it doesnt have the attraction of the fatty meats like beaver.
Rabbit when used in ground cubbys attracts rabbits to your set.I find rabbit a poor bait for marten-similar to grouse-too lean in the cold.

Try the carcasses of the yotes, cats, and foxes you catch. Make a big bait station and set snares in the trails.
You have a trapping season for wolves in Nevada?

Better check with MT. FWP before transporting carcasses across State lines. I'm not certain about that but better safe than lose your trapping/hunting privilege or get cited. What part of Montana will you be trapping out of?
