Been pondering this problem this whole last year, how to take care of green pelts while on a trip? I'll be working the not so cold Arizona foot hill and deserts. Bring old cooler and keep them cool, flesh and stretch them at camp, or other ideas? Want to get out and try for a week long trip at least 3 times this season. Also it has been a problem on work days as I check very early morning and won't be back until mid morning the next day. Catching mostly cats along with an occasional sly skunk. Thank goodness for our per day check rules.

I trapped in AZ and NM for about 20 years, long time ago, when out all day for a week or more spending the night on the line, I would skin at least by noon to prevent green belly on the fox or I would skin every 4 animals; they skin easier hot. Most of the fox and cats had very little fat on them so you would just remove the large chunks. I would put them on the stretchers fur out, right after skinning and place in bed of the pickup, it was so dry out there that they would by real dry by night fall. I new a guy that had a rack made under the cap. This is fast and dirty but it worked and when fur was up no one cared. Stretchers were 1 by 2 wooden slats with an adjustable base held together with nails as pins. Very very old school, you can see these types of stretchers in old photos from the 50s and 60s. When you were running 70 to 100 miles one way, sleep in the truck or tent and then turn around and run back the next day. You did not have time to skin 10 or more cold animals by truck headlites. Thats reality.. Working a cooler is fine but you will burn thru alot of ice.

Skin on the line and stretch in your tilt.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Thank you this helps a lot. Didn’t even think of stretching while out in the truck. Have an SUV so fishing rods and stretchers up high.
Gave me some great ideas for the trapping truck.
