No scent, just don't wash my bow hunting clothes to avoid them smelling like soap or cleaner. So you would rather your clothes smell like human body oder and sweat? They make a soap called Sports Wash that has no oder's for hunters.

[quote=danny clifton]If you can figure out where a coyote will be within a couple feet you can figure out where a deer will be too. If that deer can smell your "lure" it can smell you. If you want to put the scent down wind of your position then I would say “come on man”
In answer to the question I have killed a buck with his nose a fraction of an inch from a scent pad. He was flemming (sp) when I shot him. Tink’s 69? Don’t remember the # as it was many moons ago. If scent is used correctly it is another tool for success . I usually still hunt so a scent pad is not an option. I was on a relatively small acreage in Tx. in brush country hunting from a stand so it was applicable to make a buck pause in a shooting lane. Worked as advertised. To those trappers who disdain the use of scent to hunt please discard all of your lures and make only blind sets.

I’m learning something here. So it’s not likely a mature buck would make a scrape this close to human activity? Why not? Records are broken every year in the suburbs.

In the past I would sometimes put fox pee on my boots. When hunting near a pasture I would tromp through every cow pie I could.
I think this year I am going to watch the wind closer than deal with any scents. I learned a good tip from "The Hunting Public". They use the Milkweed fluff to check the wind direction, down drafts etc. Seems much more effective and reliable than the little powder poofer bottles I have used for years.

I have used milkweed for decades. It is by far the best thing for checking wind and watching how the thermals are manipulating the scent. Use them one time and you will see how the wind can be blowing one direction at the tree and then turn and go the other as the floater sinks or rises.

Happens when winds are intermittent, when it stops blowing your scent does a 180 I don't hunt much when the leaves are still on the trees and its breezy. I've used milkweed fluff and cata9tail fluff

[quote=HobbieTrapper]Is this a mature buck and how old would he be.
My estimation would be 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 years old.
Too filled out in the body to be less than 3-1/2 but doesn't have the mass and character that should start showing at the 5-1/2

I used to extract skunk essence from their glands when I caught some while trapping with a syringe. Kept the scent in a plastic pill bottles. Deer hunting I would douse my stand with the scent using it as a cover scent. I've had deer walk right underneath my deer stand many times. I remember when I was in high school out on a date. It was nearing deer season and I didn't have any skunk scent. I spotted a deer hit on the road. I got out and cut the scent gland out of the skunk, put it in a plastic bag and in the trunk. Girl never went out with me again.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.
