What do you prefer wax sand or wax dirt and what is your reason?

I have a bunch of both. Not all farms I trap have same soils, one works better than other in different spots. Thats about as scientific as I get with it.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

sand will need alot less wax. But like jab. I do some dirt as well. Just not as much as sand. Keep a lil to top off so it blends in better. But I always bed in the sand.

I think the rougher texture of sand makes bedding a little easier

dealing with northern illinois freeze thaw freeze thaw i have used everything it seems and the best i have found is waxed sand for my conditions. i can see where other things peat dirt coverhulls have a place but anymore i just carry waxed sand. i am fortunate where i can drive close enough to all set locations its not an issue to grab my bag and container that holds enough sand for a few sets and go set. i can say waxed sand packs way nicer than anything else ive used in freezing conditions
