Has anyone else had trouble getting the ketch-all cable to open up when you are ready to release the animal? I must be doing something wrong; directions say not to try to release under tension, might be the problem.

If you can't release under tension then it's useless. When you snug it down it is under tension right?

Wish I had more time to trap....

I know, next time I am going to try and push the pole into the neck as I release the cable. If that don't do it, the pole goes back to ketch all.

I would call them good people to deal with, and you can buy rebuild kits .

Didn’t use mine one season and right off the bat the next I had to release a 150lb domestic. Pole wouldn’t release. It got pretty serious for a while as he got mean. After many many attempts it released. Has worked fine every since. Always stored inside.

I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

More trappin' and less yappin'.

Steve, mine started sticking like that on cat releases.

A shot of Rem Oil or other light machine oil through the hole at the top of release knob should fix the problem. I wipe down the pull cable as well.

It should release fine under tension after applying a little oil.

I haven’t had any issues since.

It works great for me if I pull the cable a little then release. That way the cable is not under tension from the mechanism when released. It seems to prolong the life and make the process much easier and faster. It also helps to keep the cable area clean from mud and crud.

Thanks for the tip on cleaning cable and a shot of oil.
I've had mine for many years. One thing I recall- When not in use, relax cable to largest loop. So don't store or transport with tight loop. Just saying.
