Is there such a thing? Mine have two to two and a half feet of chain and a chain stake. Do any of you have a system that keeps them from becoming a tangled mess?

I was just wondering that myself tonight as I was untangling a rat's nest of DP's. I don't have any great ideas though. I'm all ears.

Even with care they start out in a mess, and it doesnt get better with each pull and reset.

Sometimes I have a plastic pallet that I keep in the back of the truck to put coons on to keep them up out of the blood. It has holes all the way around the outside top that fit traps with z-trap stabilizers. You can just stick them in the holes side by side. I also have drilled holes in the top of my trapping box. I screwed 2x2" boards all the way around on the top with holes to hold the DPs. Either way they are out of the pile and I actually prebait and preset them so I can get them staked and move on without being there any longer that I have to. If you have Duke traps or other type stabilizers, you'd need bigger holes to put them in. The chains hang down the outside.

For setting day I have stacked set baited dps in heavy boxes that contained bottled beer.
If you really want a mess on a rainy pulling day, connect a bunch of cable to them.
I have a board with holes for pressure washing.
Like the plastic pallet idea.

The only thing I’ve ever heard that made sense to me a guy used ziplocks for his traps one ziplock held one trap that’s too expensive for me but I might put them in some dollar store grocery bags

I have cabled berk anchors on all of mine. Roll the cable like a small mini snare, then roll the chain and cabled berk around the trap and push the cable roll back through the chain. Its not perfect but not hardly a mess at all and I can generally grab them out one at a time cleanly from a milk crate full.

Milk crates work well for me to hold a bunch. Now I put the chain and double stake swivel around and through the spring and the crate holds a couple dozen easily. I used to pre set and bait but setting and baiting DPs is so fast I don't bother any more. I come to a stop put 1-3-4 traps in a small bucket, rebar stakes, setter and dry bait and off I go. A lot of coon area around here is in softer or mucky type soil so I have been double staking with two 3/8 inch rebars that are 16-18 inches long. I use a vice grips to twist them out.

Get one of those archery targets. Set It In the back of your truck set the trap and jam It Into the target. Works like a charm.

I wrap mine around the wire jaws i too have berks attached like JabNe, then I put a rubber band around them. I use the wide ones from the dollar store

Get some 4 inch styrofoam boards cut to fit in the bottom of a milk crate and run some big screws through the crate to hold the foam in place. You can then preset and prebait your traps and push them in to the foam then set the crates in a freezer and pull out on setting day. Put them in like reading a book left to right and take them out the opposite with cable extensions hanging out of the crate. THE fastest way to go.

We took heavy cardboard tubes that tarps come rolled on and cut them to about 10" in length. Then we stood the tubes on end and glued them all together and built a wooden box to surround them. All our DPs have 16" of cable with a pogo on the end. We drop the pogo down the cardboard tube and drop the set trap in with a wooden dowel inside the trap on top. That keeps everything untangled and ready to go.

Buy stock in Ziploc then bag each DP seperately. Or zip tie everything together

I use a 2X8 cut the width of your truck bed lip. Truck must have a topper for the operation to work. I drill 3 holes spaced 2 inches apart width wise. Then repeat this process down the length of the board. You can get approximately 50 dps baited,set and anchoring system on setup and ready to go. I can fit 4 boards setup this way in my truck. As you empty you rotate boards. The traps are right there at the back of the truck above the tailgate on the bed lip. This gives you lots of room underneath for storage of other hardware. Also the boards give you a place for critters to dry of when the catch is coming in. No tangled dps. I hate tangled traps

You can cut notches into a plastic barrel or similar. Cut barrel into halves. Cut evenly spaced notches around the rim. Hang your trap by the halfway point of your chain. It actually works well. Let me see if I can find a picture
