Well back in the NAFA days one year when I was still combo trapping, my shipment consisted of rats, mink, coon, grey fox, red fox and coyote. I received at least one Top Lot in each furbearer category. To my own thinking it was my personal furbearer grand slam.

A Grand Slam Fur Harvesting here was to catch 1 individual animal that is COMMON to your area/county IN ONE DAY of the open season. That meant a muskrat, mink, beaver, opossum, skunk, coon, red fox, badger, and coyote catch all in one day. So many guys now tout that they are a Specialist Trapper, like "I am a coyote Trapper" or "I'm after a million coon" or "Mink is the ONLY One I'm after" or (heaven forbid) "I am a Beaver Trapper". Most have gotten a pretty good exposure to trapping the animal they seek from the Net but to put it all together with the gear and efficiency to pull a 9 species SLAM off in 1 day is SPECIAL and goes beyond anything I have seen on the NET.... When you started harvesting in the 60's you tried to capture everything on the ground you trapped. The money was in the mink and rats but many areas had bounties on the long hair and beaver were in concentrated spots, if any, and had a restricted season. In 1985 I hit the SLAM here with each1 of the above species taken in ONE Day and did it again in 1994. Got close several times with 8 species. Takes a decent sized water line and land line mixed with a daylight to dark mentality to take 9 different species in farm country in ONE 24 hour check requirement (Water Sets get an every other day check if on a one way slide drowner). Badgers are always the tough one to nab as they are getting ready to sleep and are very erratic this time of year. And you had to wait for beaver season to start on Dec. 1 for them to be in the mix...........So that's it for me - 9 different species in this farm country in one day to be called a GRAND SLAM here. Try it sometime as "THE QUEST" way out distances the money....................... the mike

In Minnesota it would be; Coyote Red fox Grey fox Bobcat Badger Racoon Fisher Martin Mink Muskrat Otter Beaver Weasel Possum I think that is it, just need a Martin and a Possum to have them all. These I would have to travel for. Never have seen either in this area. There are many days I wish we didn't have possum
