So I recently acquired almost 100 of these 2" spring snap hooks. They look like a carabiner with a T in the clip to not pull out when force is applied. Figure I can use them. My question is if I use these on some snare extensions I make for easy snare swapping should I use electrical tape to ensure that the critter doesn't somehow wrap the cable inside the clip and slips out the snare.. or is there no need for the tape? If there is a need would they smell the glue from the tape & it would deter them? Almost seems like a stretch with the maybe but I don't want them to be running around with a snare on em.
Thanks

if you are gonna use them i would definitely tape them shut. I've never used them in trapping but i have had several times where they have gotten snagged on something and had them open up. not sure about use with snares if its a kill snare not a restraint cable i would think the animal pulling the snare tight shouldn't be much issue but I've never used snares in this manner so no experience

K when i double I'll try to make the openings opposite. Should I also tape em?

The only thing I use them for is to attach my KB stabilizers to my body grip traps set in the water. If and when they get unhooked, I have only lost a stabilizer.

I use the Sleep-EZ threaded spring hooks or quick links for anchor connections.

Probably not necessary but it would be a good piece of mind.

Sleep ez hooks are the way to go as three things have to go wrong for you to loose the animal.

Why use that on a snare?Just carry a pair of felcos.
Here they are used on 120 marten traps for quick swap out when animals are wrapped frozen around a trap.
i wouldnt trust something like that on a live holding trap.

It's all about speed. They'll hold anything shy of an elk in a girth hitch situation. Staked to the ground could be an issue with normal snap hooks on big animals.

With non-locking 'Biners, climbers will double up and rotate 1 so the gates don't line up. But I doubt those "Key Chain" 'Biners will hold up under the pounding a trapped animal will give it.
Boss Paul sells Good screw quuick links real cheap that WILL hold up, and are no big trouble to use. Click on "The Store" at the bottom of the shed page.

I know some water trappers that use them and now and then they will loose an animal but they keep using hem because of the ease and speed, but me I feel even one lost animal is to many so don’t use them there are lots better ways
