You are using Bridger #3s? Is that right? You have to target front foot with those. With Bridger #5s you can set a little deeper for back foot catches and eliminate most of that trash setting your traps off. Blind set their crossovers, don't do a break if they're wise to you. Ambush them in their travel ways

Crowspond check your pan tension...the pan should have to be depressed down with some resistance. If it is floppy it’ll cause issues. Also be sure that the trap is bedded solidly into the mud. It shouldn’t just be layed down. Actually dig out a spot in the mud and press it down firmly...no tip or rocking.
Hope the helps...

Not trying to be a grammer/puntuation teacher here, but using a period at end of your sentences would help us understand your problem.

The first time I started beaver trapping I was using the bridger #3s. I had the same issues as you. At first they were catching and holding everything that set them off . Then eventually it came to where I had a snapped trap with no catch probably 30% of the time and a couple times an otter's toe left in the jaws. To me that was unacceptable and I upgraded to some MB 750s and Bridger #5s. Since then, anytime a trap is set off, there has been a catch waiting on me at the other end of the drowning rod. Turns out, after repeated catches the pan tension had decreased from the 4-5lbs I started with down to around 1.5-2lbs, so more than likely that was the culprit of the failure of my Bridger #3s. As a new trapper I didn't realize that could happen.

I only have 4 seasons under my belt, and all my trapping knowledge has been garnered from this site and I don't know of anyone else around me to ask for help. But, from my personal experience I would venture to say that your pan tension may not be high enough to catch that good committed catch.

Also from my limited experience, a contained population of beavers (which it sounded like you're dealing with) get educated very quickly when they don't caught that first time. So I would probably expect that you'll have to go a different route as far as your sets go if you want to catch those wised up beavers.

Take what I say though with a grain of salt if you want, I'm not the most experienced guy on the block. But I've been in similar hip boots before.

Beaver often fire traps with their bellies. They come swimming in, not walking, and set off the trap with their chest. Set shallow and block it off so they come in walking. Use pungi sticks with their tops just under the water surface or rocks in front of the trap to stop them from swimming in. Make sure it is a drowning set or they'll get away.

Before and after
See the gravel dam so beaver can’t swim onto shallow trap
Guide sticks help bring beaver over trap
Lure stick with castor is just behind trap
Set is made on deep drop off bank with good current
Attached is a gunny sack of rocks wired close to trap
Then long wire out to limb hanging over deep water
That was a really nice dark beaver
