Hammering the fur HFT.
Good to have 2 snowmachines so no downtime on the line if one needs repairs.

Finished getting the line out today. Still have a few places I want to set up form the fox and yote but I am at 90 percent smile

Had this little guy show up this morning in my shed smile That bucket was full of beaver chunks. Might have the wife trap it so she can say she actually caught something smile

I love those little guys. And you won't have vermin issues with it around.

Last run I went up a creek to one of my favorite places. Kinda worried about running that creek this year. It had flooded pretty good and then froze. I found this drop out right above one of my lynx locations. I could see were the otter had come out on the right. Today I blocked it in and set 2 330's. Now it is just a waiting game and hoping over flow dont bite me! We got about 4 inches of fresh snow and temps are suppose to drop. Hopefully the critters will move!

Cool looking set HFT.
Otters always seem to be able to find a place to get under or on top of the ice.

I love the color of this one smile

Here is a question for you guys. Growing up in PA the critters loved sheep and goats, pigs on the other hand nothing would touch. Up here it seems to be the opposite. Last year I got two baby goats that had passed away and wired them to the base of a tree as bait. Didn't get anything and today driving by that area those dang things are still there! Anyone else have a similar outcome or experience?

I would have thought a black bear would have snagged those in the spring at least.

I had a porkie in a 330 that I didn't want to try removing from the trap. I hung it on a low branch so it could be reached from the ground. It hung there two years. Even the flies weren't interested.

On the other hand, I knew a gal in Red Devil who kept a couple of goats just to keep the bears away. Maybe the goats were just too different to interest anything

Don't know about goats, but have had poor luck with porky meat. Been a few times when bait ran low, so harvested porky, skinned and placed in sets. No takers.
I know marten, wolverine, and fisher hunt/kill them, but I have had zero luck using them for bait.

Good looking otter set.
I shot a moose a couple years back in February. Had no fat on it and had a funny smell. Tried eating some and it tasted awful. Not sure exactly what was wrong with it but the pooled up blood had a whitish oily looking film on it. Even the wolverines wouldn’t touch it.

white, I thought at least the bears would get them as well, plenty of them out there! Interesting about the gal and the goats, maybe a new bear deterrent, goat spary smile

av, I think a critter gotta be pretty dang hungry to eat one of them or maybe there is a certain time of year that they hunt them. I harvested one for a friend, skinned it out and let the carcass at the base of a spruce, nothing touched it, the skeleton was still there the following fall.

Ryan, that would bite! All that work for that moose! It must have been pretty sick if nothing touched it. I have heard that domestic animals that have been given antibiotics and then passed critters wouldn't touch it. I was given a horse once that had got sick, they doped it up pretty good with antibiotics before it passed. I chunked it up and put it at a bait station, not even the ravens would touch it. It seems that when the birds dont mess with it nothing will.

man you all bring up some good questions in regards to what animals wont eat. I always thought spring bears would eat anything but it seems even they are picky at times.

Never seen anything eat a porcupine, they just sit there and rot away. Eagles and ravens are others I have not see anything eat.

Interestingly, I couldn't count how many marten I have taken with quills in them. And pretty much every wolverine, as well.
Of course that doesn't mean they eat them.

Same here. I suspect they do eat them. Why else take the risk of killing them ?

One winter I took to following wolverine tracks all over the place. I found several porky dens I never would have seen in a lifetime. Over the years I have noticed many wolverines checking out those same locations year after year.

I believe wolverines are like bears in that respect. Once they find food in a location they check it out on every trip through the territory. That is an exploitable habit.

white that is some good info on the wolverine.

Got a call from Fish and Game to come pick up a moose for trapping bait. When I got there they had three on a trailer. I asked what happened to them, they were all bulls and missing their heads. Some jack wagon had poached all three. mad They said the troopers were on them and fixing to lower the hammer. Pretty bummed about where they were shot at, within 3 miles of where I hunt. Makes me wonder oif that is the reason I saw so few bulls this past season.

Anyhow I got some bait that will last a spell.

Be safe out there!

Interesting on porkys, I can’t count the number of coyote, wolverine, wolf,I’ve skinned with quills in them. I also know Andrew Berg’s book he fed his dogs, and ate them himself preferring the meat. I’ve had wolf and otter carcasses go untouched, but had them devoured on other occasions. Probably has something to do with other contaminants acquired between skinning and dumping on the bait pile.

white, I hope so to. The bellies were bloated and they got some stink so a few days at least. I will let it freeze up then take the sawz all to it and get chuncks that I can carry.
