JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Many people from across Region 8 felt an earthquake Wednesday evening.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake occurred at 8:53 p.m. in northern Butler County.

It was later upgraded to a 4.0-magnitude earthquake.

It was centered about 12.5 miles, northwest of Poplar Bluff.

Did it reverse the Mississippi?

Epicenter was about 15 miles crom my house... about a 5 second tremor is all.

My father in Springfield said it rattled the house.

Earthquakes are fun, especially long and strong ones. I've experienced two 6.9's and one 6.8.
They will instill a sense of awe in you.
A trip to Adak Island for a week or two will nearly guarantee a quake.

I alwasy wondered how I was supposed to tell if there was an earth quake

The list big one in that area made the church bells in Boston ring.

A lot more than it would take to cause western California to finally slide off into the Pacific.

Gotcha let's deal with the left coast first.

We had a small one near here about 10 years ago. I was in my basement when the shock wave came through. It was one of the weirdest feelings ever. No real "shaking". Just a slight movement and then a vertigo/confusion type of feeling washed over me. I got upstairs just as the chandelier over the dining room table stopped swaying.

Earthquakes scare the crap out of me. We seem to get a couple per year.

If you want more or bigger earthquakes then they need to put up more wind farms. The rotating blades mess with the earth’s gravity or so I’ve been told. I hope they don’t build anymore of them around here. When the closest one too me went on line, I started noticing small earth tremors and my chickens started walking backwards.

We've had two here in the last ten or so years, don't remember any in the 40 years prior of my lifetime.

The first one I could hear coming up the road, thinking a truck was coming that had flat spotted tires. I watched for the truck, but the noise went on past and no truck.
The ground thumped worse than a truck going by but if I hadn't known there wasn't a truck, I wouldn't have thought it to be an earth quake.

The second one I knew what it was.

They got to be made out of the heavy duty foil. My chicken’s are kind of pecky.

Yep. That was my uneducated guess for them.

I've noticed that I seem to walk faster lately, or is the ground just moving slower?
