Nice. I'm thinking about buying you a rangefinder for Christmas, Scott, that's a lot of paces to keep track of. I counted it Twice, I have a Nikon rangefinder, never use it. *** I just need Some 140 Gr. Bonded 7mm Mag ammo. Pert near out Quit missing.
Get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US.

Rob, in your excitement...you made a mistake I had that Savage 14 built for my Dad, the barrel was cut down 3" & re crowned, stock cut down also . My goal was to try and match My Dad's favorite rifle in Weight and Length of pull. His .44 Ruger semi Auto which he shoots well ,if only to 100 yards. I wanted him to have a Rifle that fit him (with a rest) into his 1 good shoulder. A rifle to shoot past 100 yds with light recoil.

I doubt a Creedmoor would have killed an animal that large at 400 yards. Those are magnum caliber distances. What??? I've taken pronghorns at 400 and 500 yds with my 6mm Rem. Single shot kills. No magnum needed on that size game. A Creedmoor would have done fine, but there is nothing wrong with using the 7mm RM. Is it legal to fill someone else's tag for them in Minn? I don't have any issue with what you did, hunting together as you were, but if it was not legal you just put yourself on record for an illegal activity.

Not picking at scabs, but you stepped off 395 PACES, which is a lot shorter than a yard.

My Dad and I did it together, party hunt out of the same Old man stand.
He and I had fun that's what made it a Great weekend
Good for the father and son bonding moment. Now the real question is ....Does 160user really --really need another gun---really ? Double question mark??

Glad you got "the meat" for your Dad. I doubt a Creedmoor would have killed an animal that large at 400 yards. Those are magnum caliber distances. I watched a mature rutting mule deer buck fall within 20 yards of where he was standing when shot to a creedmoor at 437 laser ranged yards this past week. The same creedmoor took a bull elk in 2019 at 475 and a female pronghorn at 525 the same year. I have personally dropped 2 large hogs in thier tracks at 400+ yards with my own creedmoor and killed a cow elk at 386. I'm in no way knocking a 7 mag it is a great cartridge for big game but don't under sell what a creedmoor can do at distance.

Glad to hear it was legal. It should be the way you did it, but would not be in all states. Congrats on a great bonding moment with your dad and a fine shot.
