If going for coyotes and ur using a good strong coyote trap and good holding earth anchor the trap chain can be short(like 12" with a couple of swivel points) the length of chain for the earth anchor depends on the type of soil your using it in. Our soil is pretty tight and I use about 14".

We needs more specifics there's no one size fits all type of thing .
Are asking how much cabin you need to a coyote trap with a chain stake ? If so it's gonna depend on your ground. You in soft ground hard ground or sand ?

I would like your chain length off the trap and then your earth anchor length.my coyote trapping is done mainly in loamy soil in eastern South Dakota.

This doesn’t answer your question but it’s related information and food for thought:

You might want to add some chain to the end of your earth anchor cables. Sometimes when setting the earth anchor the cable pulls up a little before the anchor really fetches up. Having 4 inches or so of chain on the earth anchor cable allows the chain to lay flat under the trap. Otherwise, the loop on the cable sometimes sticks up under the trap and makes bedding the trap solidly a little more difficult.

Some people use earth anchors with all chain, no cable for the same result.

I like about 12-15" coming off the trap, including three inline swivels. I then settled on linking that up with close to 18" of machine chain on wolf fang stakes.
Most of the time 15" stakes hold just fine, but sometimes the extra length is needed. And with chain, you can choose the depth you need to pound your stake in, and then any extra left above ground coils neatly into the trap bed, nice and flat. Like AndrewM explained above.

In SD, I'd think 15" cable stakes would hold anything that the traps will hold. I prefer the chain long enough to set the trap over my knee without having to pull the anchor.

6" - 10" of US straight-link chain with 2 MB crunch proof swivels, and a 15" chain stake. Very stout, economic, easy on the animal, and easy on the wallet!
