Things got a little off the rails on this hunt. That seems to be the case more often than not when Cheri and I hunt together. LOL

What’s your guesstimate on the weight of your wife’s Doe? Looks like a whopper.

Blood trails are a lot easier to follow in the snow. I have tracked some that far without snow but the craziest track was when a fella shoot two deer and did not do a good job of explaining where each deer was when he shot in the woods near last light in the evening. Young fella and very excited. Lots of pretty leaves on the ground and swamp grass in an old pond bed. Found the first one easy, kinda like you did. Then we took off after #2, and ended up back at #1 scratching our heads several times until we finally got better info from the shooter. Those deer had crossed tracks several times but we finally sorted it out and found #2 but it took about an hour and a half.

Definitely one of the biggest does I have ever seen, over 200 live weight. By the time I dragged it back to the Polaris I think it was about 600.

No doubt. We would have never found that deer if it wasn't for the snow. Many times I was sorting out tracks until I would find a drop of blood again.

What did the video frames tell you about the shot on your Doe, 2nd one?

I've had them jump-kick high like that and then go 3 to 400 yards. Usually clipped the heart but not all the arteries.

She wasn't zoomed in enough to tell on that one, but this one was double lunged and ran 100 yards, the first one we found.

my first one this year just would not die , same shot placement as yours just a little low but exit through the front of the shoulder we would give it a while go find a bed jump the deer , shoot at it again , this went on 3 times each adding another from our party to help look finally came up on a guy and asked if a deer had come through , yup right over there , just then it gets up and the whole line of guys open up on it we had been chasing this deer for about 90 minutes at this point well in the end it was still going with one leg and still had to be put down

our last guy showed up just as everyone cut loose he had left his gun with his grandpa up at the top of the hill figuring he would be helping drag and not need any extra to carry he had his deer hanging in the tree already back at the house so showing up just as a lint of people are all shooting he was like I am just going to wait back here a bit till yall are done

in just behind the shoulder but low and out just at the front of the other shoulder huge wound the blood trail even without any snow was one a blind man could have followed for the first 75 yards we had waited 20 minutes then jumped it ,got off another shot

it just did not want to give up

my second deer was the first one I ever left int he woods over night , but I shot it close to end of light and couldn't shoot it again if I jumped it it piled up 60 yards or so after the last place I saw it probably before I even had the GPS way point entered but I had no way of knowing that.
it was down int he 20s over night

I am going to have to check the zero on that gun , all shots seem lower than I was aiming , I had checked it 3 weeks ago and had made a elevation correction to bring it down but verified it with 3 rounds after and was good group where I wanted it

Haha, I’ll stick with a bow. 4 deer and farthest track job was 50 yards…even though they all fell within sight. We track everything regardless.

I've killed well over 100 with a bow and well... your day is coming. Nobody's perfect.

I have only had to track a few of my own most of my gun shot deer drop on the spot or within 25 yards. had a couple go 150 or so yards last 75 bloodless

waiting 20 minutes I don't think I have ever had one live that long that could get back up again once I got up to it

this one was almost completely bloodless after 75 yards also how it kept going i have no idea

That’s just this year. Not trying to get in a urinating contest, but I’ve lost way more with a gun than I ever have with a bow. For instance, helped a buddy look for one for several hours Sunday evening shot with a 30/06. Never found the first drop of blood. He found the deer today within 75 yards of the shot. Dead on shoulder shot. No blood even where he found the deer. Again I’ll stick to a bow leaving a blood trail within a short distance rather than a rifle. Out west where one can see for miles or they have snow, yeah ok. Down here, if you don’t have blood, you aren’t finding the deer without a dog.

I found it interesting that Bernie when tracking was stepping right on the trail of blood. No chance of going back and re-following that way ?
Granted there was a whole mess of other deer trails.

Very interesting Bernie especially how you could review the shot frame by frame to see strike location.

Don't see it but there has to be a cross bow or gun in the tracking in case you came across the doe still alive and ready to take off again.

The doe ran into the state park which borders my property so we cannot take a weapon with us for recovery. After seeing so many beds I was getting concerned that we might find her alive, which would mean we'd have to go get the park ranger.

There was such a good blood trail I didn't expect to have to go back. Once it dropped way back and I was sorting out deer tracks rather than blood, there was only a spot or two of blood every 10 yards or so. Seriously there's no chance we would have been able to track right to this deer without snow on the ground.
