I've been doing my beaver sets different this season. In that I actually been digging a bed and bedding the way a land set is done. Nothing on top though. Just a bed. However. Sand been getting under pan. Preventing it from firing. Anyone know of any tricks with that? Is it really necessary to actually bed? Before I never bothered and caught more beaver

I just kinda wiggle em into the mud. Never had a problem with it. They get sanded in in the river, or in a lake if there's a lot of wave action, but I don't know what to do about that.

That sugar sand, silt is a pain to deal with. I think the best way to deal wtih it is to dig out an area away from the bed so you reduce the amount of sand that can fall into the bed. You could take blue shop towels as a pan cover to help.

I do like digging beds to help reduce belly/tail fires on shallow approach sets

What about using pad underneath the pan, like for coyote?

Try setting out of the current. Anywhere where it slows
the flow of the water to reduce silt..or set a rock or 2 upstream to
divert the current enough to let it work.
And, I also dig the beds, just to level out
and make them drop feet where you want them to.
Level the landing, figure which foot is best, and work
trap into the silt, pull it out, let current clean trap off, and set
back in the bed you just made.

Set one of your traps and measure the distance from the bottom of the pan to the top of the base of the trap. Cut a piece of pillow or mattress foam just a little thicker than your measurement. Lay that cut piece under the pan and useing a sharpie trace the pan on the foam. Cut outside the sharpie line so it is slightly bigger than the pan.
They make a good underall for sandy bottom sets.

Putting something under the pan will keep sediment from getting under the pan. But In most cases anytime you disturb the waters flow you will get sand that drop out of suspension and will cover the the trap and keep It from working. Disturbing the flow of water Is like disturbing the flow of the wind with a snow fence and you get a snow drift.
If you have current and sandy conditions I don't know Of anyway to solve the problem.

Wonder if a sponge would work for that problem. Under the pan
