I order a new one every fall an I know it's not good to leave them loaded but I have feeding issues because of the spring weakening on every one. (Pickup/trapline gun) Anyone have better results with aftermarket clips?

I have a 10-22 I bough used in about 1990, and its mag stays loaded and I never have feeding issues. The only time it is unloaded is when I shoot it dry. Then I reload it.

Must be better quality spring! 6 months with a new clip loaded the last 3 or 4 rounds just bounce around loose an won't attempt to feed

there are a couple fixes

you could unload them as others have pointed out , but you leave them loaded I would assume to alwasy have ammunition at the ready , that has a cost

you can once a year take your mag apart and clean with a dry lube and cleaner then rewind them a little tighter Hornady one shot works great on all the lube needs of a 10/22 as well as the mags and it doesn't gum up https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1014743671?pid=170954

or you can get the tandem cross green spring replacement springs that hold longer https://www.tandemkross.com/Green-Springs-Magazine-Springs-for-Ruger%C2%AE-1022%C2%AE-3-Pack_p_687.html

not that you need them but they do make it convnient the tandem cross magazine tools to easily break down the mags and re-wind them. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018784648?pid=669089

you can tighten them a few times then put in the green springs then probably tighten them some and eventually replace those also

youtube has a video on how to rewind the spring and add tension. Springs should not go spft frome being loaded. The get weak from use. That being said they can rust and get weak .

My original, 10 round, Ruger 10/22 magazine from 1986 has been fully loaded most of the time since 1986 and still works fine. I have found the springs in the knock off, 30 round clips are junk. I bought an additional 10 round magazine from Ruger and it always works fine too.

springs shouldn't ever become less springy as long as they're only stretched within their limits. I can't believe Ruger would design their magazine springs to operate outside of the "elastic limit" where springs are damaged.

I bet you just need to wind your spring tighter. I don't remember how to do it but I took a couple of 10/22 magazines apart to clean them and ended up having to re-wind the springs. Sounds like your spring needs an extra turn.

I also keep my 10/22 magazine loaded. It's one of my middle-of-the-night-something's-under-the-porch-guns so I want it ready to go. It's been loaded for 35 years and still feeds fine.

having one go weak in a year seems odd
I cleaned and tightened a 40 year old mag for a friend last year , when it had feeding issues he was sure it had never been serviced before ,

one getting dirty in a year very possible

a different friend was into generously using a particular brand of spray lube and when his mags started to act up he would hose them down with said spray lube and they worked again , for a while , then after some months back to the same issues not feeding well , his answer spray it down again.

that spray dries out and gets sticky causing the issues , spraying it down thins it back out and keeps it wet for a time then gums up again

this is where a dry lube and cleaner is ideal as well as taking them apart and cleaning them then re-assembling

I have been buying the clear Ruger 10/22 mags , being able to see they are loaded , how many rounds and the state of clean is worth the extra couple dollars they get for the clear I don't recall how many 10/22 mags I have , several we shoot 10/22 in weekend marksmanship clinics and club shoots as well as hunting and just plinking.

I picked up the tandem cross mag tools a year or two ago it makes re-assembly and getting the spring tension simple

"Loose rounds bouncing around", is not a spring issue. It is a dirt issue. A few grains of course sand will lock up a Ruger mag follower. The spring is still trying to do its job, but the follower can't do its job.

I buy the after market clear plastic rotary mags and never had an issue yet.

I had a feeding issue a few years ago, took the mags apart and cleaned out the lint and grit. Tightened the springs and good to go. Easy fix.

Ruger makes them only difference is clear VS black plastic all the metal and springs are the same

they are great for those instances when you need to load less than 10 mostly specific target shoots

you can also see exactly what you have left

we shoot some events where you load 2 and 8 simulated M1 Garand loading before I had clears I would write on the mags 2 and 8 then load them as such then I started buying the clear mags

Ruger even has the BX25 mags with one clear side , best 25 round mags around they have the metal feed lips same as the original 10 rounders
