Teach, I hope you saved the skulls to clean up and the baculum of the dogs. Even a cleaned busted up yote skull has more value than 10 of your critters. Very sad...

I'm waiting to see some put up fur prices for an indicator of the market. I don't sell anything on the carcass

A couple of my friends run coyotes with Walkers. They were told from the guy who has been pretty reliable for buying their furs that he wasn't buying any that were shot.
Our ancestors settled an undeveloped land and built a civilization. They didn't sneak in and sign up for welfare.

Depends a lot on where you are. Why would anyone sell western heavies on carcass? I can see it more for eastern or midwest dogs, but heavies from out west you're leaving a lot on the table by not putting them up.

Exactly, but.....you better learn to not wast your time on ones with lice, mange or serious defects in the fur. Ya gotta learn to tell the difference!

Most southeast SD coyotes typically go semi-heavies in normal years.
A number of years back, a friend of mine found 6 shot yotes in a pretty sparse ditch a couple hundred meters off of a county highway. He picked them up because he thought it looked bad and called me because he's never done anything with fur. At the time, bedroom town was one of the few spots in se SD that a certain multi-state country buyer stopped. I suspected these yotes were taken to that stop and the "boys" were told the carcasses had "no value" but they got po'd to leave them with the buyer for free, so drove out in the country a ways and dumped them.
I hadn't really played around with putting up yotes so I thought this might be some learning in how to do it. I had some coon to send to NAFA so decided to sent these mutts as well, even though it violated Boco's and others dictum "don't send junk". One yote was blown up so bad that I didn't even try and another one went bad on me between washing/drying it and boarding it (all of these suckers had to be thawed out) but I ended up finishing the other 4, including stitching up some pretty big holes.
All were graded damaged, no surprise (one was missing most of a back leg) but 2 got graded "heavy', so maybe the original shooters had got them further west or northwest of here. I got (before commission) $26, 10, 4, & 4 for them. Was it worth my time money wise, probably not, but I learned some fur handling. A few more years went by and during the 2018-19 season, my hs senior snared a couple yotes near by in January. The male was rubbed pretty bad so he ended up on "home tan" pile but the female looked pretty decent so I put her up. She graded semi-heavy at the 2019 NAFA spring sale with a valuation of $65. It ended up going for $80. I was pretty happy...

I would bet there wasn't a heavy in the bunch, much less a heavy pale. We get a few SD coyotes at the NDFTA fur sale and every one has been a semi at best. We have sections of ND that does not produce many heavy coyotes. Some people can not see or feel the difference, but there is a difference. What have the temperatures been in SD the last week? It has been in the 40's here. Did the coyotes come out of a freezer? You can't blame the market for all of it. You haul in 50% junk coyotes to sell in a dropping market on the round and wonder why the price was low. The gravy train is gone.

Bison, your sloughs all dried up down there...? A place that I trapped in 2019 that 35-50 huts in about 5-6 acres still has water in it but had only 1 new hut this year last week. Some other ones around the same area have a couple there, 3 here. Hate bugging people asking them to trap a place with 3 active huts on it.
