I also have seen a dp baited with the same bait/lure that is presented differently will produce better than a DP stuck in the ground (standard set) with the same bait/lure set 5 feet away. 80/20 concept.

So a DP is not a foothold trap according to your states regulations?

Well its been almost 2 weeks since I posted that. And very few in dps. But ALOT in my other sets. Coyotes sets, blind sets in trails and shallow water, castor mound sets, even one got in a 150 bottom edge (had some lenons muskrat call on fiberglass post from Last year yet) but on this certain property. Every time I trap it. Dps are not effective for it. But everything definitely is.

No not classified as a foot trap here. our ban is on steel-jawed leghold type traps. The DP has its own BMPs and classification which legally allows us to use them.

Change your presentation. If you are using the baits lures and they are working with other sets then it is not that issue. Every year in the trapping snaring school we go into details on why presentation is so important with dp traps. Just a thought, why will a coon avoid a cage or DP trap yet go right into a well-presented foot trap? After the school here in Jan the folks who come will get back to us and tell us that changing the presentation increases the catch rate and catches the coon that avoid the standard set. Every trapper reading this knows and believes in proper presentation. or they wouldn't take great pains to bed and blend the foot traps. Where we mess up is we think that is only for certain critters not the dumb raccoon. 80/20 concept

If you have to bury a dp in the ground, seems like you could have just made a dirthole in the same amount of time and possibly caught multiple species. Unless of course, you have to use the dp to avoid dogs or because of regulations.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Or your state doesn't allow footholds Like mine Foot traps have been banned since 1984. We have to learn how to make cable and dp's work in every situation that we can.

This year, in central ND, my 1.5 coils out trapped my DP's 3 - 2. I also struggled with mice cleaning out my dogproofs until a buddy told me about putting a golf ball on top. That took care of the mouse issue, but the coilsprings still out produced.
For what it's worth, I don't think I was in a high density coon area. I feel like I should have caught more than 5 coons in two and a half weeks.

These are both 3rd catches in same DPs. Two locations, 6 coon. 2 DPs.
I changed bait after 2nd catches and immediately got #3 at both sets.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
