Got a little variety today on the line smile

I think I caught the worlds smallest fox, still had milk on its lip smile

[Linked Image]

Picked up a nice marten at a set that I didnt think would produce.

[Linked Image]

Little ermine smile

[Linked Image]

The hay sets are paying off for me this year smile

[Linked Image]

And Meowch struck again for me smile

[Linked Image]

Now here is a question for you guys. I cut these tracks today and I am scratching my head to what they belong to. Bigger then a marten and a different stride. Any Ideas?

Looks like a fisher but not sure if they are in your area.

Nice work! You are doing well on the cats this season. Looks like fisher to me also.

Is the snow wet and packy where you took the picture of the track? The stride and pattern looks like fisher to me also (we have quite a lot here) but like marten, fisher have hair on their pads and toes can seldom be seen in tracks unless the snow is very wet and packy.

madmike, Thanks for the kind words!

bearcat, No fisher here. Dry fresh snow.

av, I think you might be right in that whatever it was is carrying something. Maybe that could explain why the track is so much bigger then normal. What is confusing to me is that I cut those tracks about a mile further down my trail and they were the same size and pattern. I didnt have time to investigate and run the track, but next run I will be following its trail to see what is up. -17 here so they aint going anywhere smile

Yeah John I have seen that strange pattern when they are loping and then switch to waking or vice versa.

It also seems like a marten wouldn't "post hole" in that deeper snow unless it was really fluffy and especially if he is carrying something

Here's some marten tracks I came across a couple weeks ago, super dry fluffy snow. No detail for toes, but the shape and size look pretty close to the ones in your picture.

Marten can make some funny track patterns at times.

Old collectors moto
" what is missed- remains a mystery- Butt- what is hit- is history "

So get you BUTT out there and get that gear in place for some history.

one foot not being used all the time could have been an old injury and it is favouring it ;ie porky quill or snapped trap...

Pretty chilly run for me today. -22 when I headed out. I know that aint much for most of you guys but my body just cant handle the cold like it used to. Things always seem to wanna break in negative weather. I must have hit a knob head the wrong way cause I broke a front suspension spring.
The dang birds hit me pretty hard and wiped out three bait stations. The ice cubes I dropped today hopefully will last a little longer. I am about out of snares at one bait. I keep dropping 3-6 everytime out there and the dang fox or yote finds a different entrance. Just got to be a little patient.

Picked this little yote up by a bait station. Didnt seem to hardly fight the snare at all and decided to hang out.

[Linked Image]

Should have had 2 yotes today but this joker decided to come in on the back side. The yotes are really digging that Lenons fox lure I got from Ted!

[Linked Image]

I followed that set of track for a spell. I am not convinced that it is a marten, sure aint a wolverine, but I am thinking it might be a little lynx. Either way I dropped some gear for when it passes through again.

Be safe out there!

I wondered about a lynx kitten too. That's why I asked how many toes in the track. Hope you figure it out

Man! You are having a good season! Keep rolling!

Got to watch out for those tussocks. I hit one with the ski and the handle bars jammed my wrist.
