Got this opossum today (in a fox set of course) and he had a little greenish/yellow tint on his fur under the neck/chest area. It was there right after I dispatched him and I skinned him 2 hours later. Is this normal? Is the pelt any good? I’ll be using it for personal projects, I don’t care about money. I’ve only gotten one other opossum and it was a small early season female. If it helps, he seemed very old (broken teeth, very white face, large size) any help is appreciated!

Most of the grinners I catch have that yellowish spot on their chest, it seems to get worse as the season progresses toward spring. They always get caught and mess up a good fox set, never fails. Pelt should be fine and they make a nice wall hanger/craft fur after tanning.

Yes very normal. I think there is some sort of gland there and thats where the off color comes from.
