Curious what everyone else does when applying Call Lure to help it last a long time and stay somewhat weather proof?

I'm in heavy wet snow conditions and the call lure always goes high on a pine tree or bush.

I've played around with sheep wool and even used a 3 inch stub of 3/4 inch pvc pipe nailed horizontally to a tree with the lured wool in the pipe.

Any lure with skunk quill is not cheap these days..trying to make it last a long time

Thoughts? Thanks!

I have battled that, belive me. Have tried old 35mm film canisters, cut up plastic coffee containers and bent them into mini roofs, q-tips stuck in little tree crevices, etc.
Nothing is foolproof. However, a stick dipped in Gusto, laid across spruce boughs, and a piece of bark or what-not laid over it works as well as anyhing.

Ha! You're speaking my language Alaska Viking!

Tree crevices, film canisters...the list goes on.

The other problem I have is after placing the call lure in one location on a branch or tree I'll go to resmear after 4-5 days and can't find where its located!

Frustrating!

I use a duck/chicken wing or a goose/turkey feather in hopes that if they dont smell the lure on it the sight might still attract them. To many times prior to that I'd put it on a branch or a stick forget it was there and then wonder were the heck I got skunk on me from smile That and not all lures are the same. Some disappear in the rain others still preform same with the cold. There use to be that stuff called Dead Horse Gulch hands down the best skunky lure that held up in any weather that lure aint available anymore and the closest thing I have found to it is that Skunk Junk.

Most trappers put lure in the wrong place.
Long distance call lure should be placed near the ground around a foot off the ground is good.
Scent up high doesnt leave a scent track for animals to follow.
Scent near the ground is deposited in a trail along the ground by subtler ground currents and the animals will follow it to your set when they cross the scent trail.
if you ever watch an animal following a scent trail their nose is near the ground following the scent trail.
Scent placed high up just dissipates away without leaving anything on the ground for animals to follow.

I wrap the scent in a hayball under a couple spruce branch,or in the case of a dried skunk pod at a jackpot,i place it in a plastic container with holes in the lid and placed upside down with the holes down in a small screened bottom box(like a small marten box) on the side of a tree

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Plastic disposable water bottles. Nail it through its middle to a tree. Can be lured ahead of time then capped. Once nailed, spin it more or less horizontal and uncap. Horizontal keeps the snow out. Dump out old lure when reluring. Glycerine with skunk or mineral oil w skunk but glycerine is better. Take a trash bag for the bottles when you're done and burn them.

you can vote your way into socialism, but you will have to shoot your way out.
