I have close to a 5 gallon pail of coyote droppings. Any use for them other than as an attractor at the set? Was thinking something like melting them down in urine or something to apply at the set. Looking for ideas. Thanks.

I thought the old time wolfer formulations that were called "yeast formulas" were referring to lures that had droppings mixed in. Think some that didn't know different actually tried using yeast but my understanding is that was not right. Just my 2 cents. I've used a lure made this way and tried my hand at making one myself.

Paul Antczak makes something he calls K9 puddin' that consists of droppings, glycerin, and urine blended and mixed to a gloppy consistency. Like a scent post but with poop.

There are several productive uses for scat, droppings/poop. I don't know that there is a bad way to use them. I am inclined to go with keeping them as original as is possible but I have been inclined to add a twist or two in using them for a specific set or cagey animal I have encountered.

Adding a squirt of urine to stimulate the contents if found in a dried form is probably the most widely used method. Urine of any type to add curiosity of another animal or that of the target animal. Re hydrate with some glycol or glycerin / with some distilled water over time to allow soaking to occur. This will keep the scat near to its original odor form.

Some like to formulate scat into their lures and baits. Or to make it a primary ingredient in a specific product. Many schools of thought in using scat. I tend to save fresh scat and carry a plastic container to place it and layer it when I get lucky and find many droppings in a few days. It tends to mold quickly if stored in a moist container over time so you must be aware of this as it will change its original odor.

Dried scat can be bulk stored without many worries as long as the container doesn't sweat too much.

Mix some of the fresher ones with glycerin and make a paste. Make about 12 ounces of the paste. Then, buy 4 ounces of your favorite coyote gland lure and mix with the paste. You now have 16 ounces of a coyote lure that will work very well.

This also works with fox turds and bobcat turds.

Makes the lure go further, too.
