I've caught a couple of marten the last few days and am wondering if there's any bait value in their carcasses?
Generally I just throw them in my coyote/wolf bait pile but I'm wondering if they'd work better in a lynx cubby or other places?

I haven't seen much interest in them over the years. A fox might give them a lick or two but not real enthusiastically.

I have had marten eaten by other marten in certain years.
A frozen skinned carcass wont have much attraction if there is other food around.
Frozen weasel carcasses with the glands attached will bring in cats.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Also, White 17 has been known to snack on them. Really.

There's a guy in SE Alaska that swears they are the best wolverine bait.
I think they get used to eating them out of traps, or taking the whole works.

The only times I have had wolverine take marten from a trap was when the marten was still alive.....................at least as far as I can tell. If there was a dead one hanging, the gulo would circle the set and move on.

I recall one morning in 1977 that gulo ran my line just ahead of me and took 14 marten along with the traps they were in. Expensive day

A friend of mine lost 11 marten on his last check to a wolverine. I had one eaten and one chewed on yesterday too. A wolf took one as well yesterday.

Ryan I remember in the NAFA crazy days some 1/2 marten sent in and they were still getting a uncle Ben's for them, as well as your NWT subsidized money

now it probably equals 2 kernels of uncle ben's rice, not even a cup worth

I’m always hesitant to add marten carcasses to a bait pile. Makes me think more animals might develop a taste for them

I suppose that's another way of looking at it. Thanks.
