$700 for a trap and they are still bidding on it. What is so special about it?

Not sure Cut and paste it in your google search
From the add
triumph trap RARE trapping fur co newhouse vintage. Up for sale is a super tough to find 34 (in this shape). I don’t believe this trap saw any use. One of the nicest that I have seen. I will also be listing the brother to this model the 34x and it is also a super nice! Will combine shipping, if they are purchased together.

A triumph 34 is a darn hard trap to find. One in near new condition like that is impossible.
I have nothing clever to put here.

OK I see it,but not a very good pic. Chain looks old but cant see the patina or other details to evaluate. Seems high alright. OK checked the other link with better pics-looks like a nice trap.

The trap in question and its sister with underjaws which the same seller also has for sale at this time were produced in the early 1930s in an attempt by Triumph to remain in business. They were advertised as being a #2 size trap with #4 size jaws. Relatively few of either trap were made or sold and fewer have survived the 90 years since they were manufactured. For collectors of Triumph traps these traps are among the most desirable of the foothold traps that Triumph made. Both of the #34 traps currently for sale appear to be in very good condition. A 34X trap similar to the one that led to this thread sold just a week or so ago on eBay for over a thousand dollars and I do not think that it was overpriced.

I thought cleaning collector traps was a bad thing to do? To much pitting on the trap and pan to be that shiny without being cleaned.

That trap is in pretty good condition. Typically you see the 34X for sale and with the clutches they do normally command a higher premium. However, in my opinion, the 34, w/o clutches, is a harder one to find.
Just livin' the dream...and paying full price for it!
