Is it on many of your minds? It's good to be cautious.
Sometimes I think cold weather heightens the risk.

It comes to mind when I've dragged a deer about 100 yards. Lol.
Best I know to do is take your time and don't over exert yourself.

I do not let my health concerns stop me from doing things I enjoy. I am a genuine old fart and do not have the strength or stamina that I once had. I also have a bone on bone bad knee that I need to get total replacement but is does not keep me from climbing. I had a stent placed in 2007 a few weeks after I killed a nice buck with a bow while wearing a heart monitor that revealed I had atrial fibrillation. I have since had a procedure that completely corrected the atrial fibrillation. I see my cardiologist every year but I still hunt and trap.

I have a four wheeler and one of my sons is usually available to help me get a deer out of the woods.

I know I can not go at it like I used to but I still hunt and enjoy it. I do not let the fear of what could happen stop me.

Yeah, sometimes I think it is the excitement of the presence of a live buck that can cause problems, not just walking into a stand or dragging out the deer. Carrying extra weight (gear) to/from a stand doesn't help

I have a close friend from Ripon That found a hunter passed away in the deep snow lying against a tree. That was several years ago. He had a heart attack.

A lot of people around here use atv's to access their stands or drag out deer. I hate the thought of atv'ing to my stand...getting gassy smelling & spooking deer.
