Happy New Year all! I would like to make a oil based tincture of Castor for next fall. What do you recommend? I have Peanut oil and Mineral oil on hand. What are your thoughts. Thank You
Jeff

Jeff, Assuming the castors are dried and ground i use 1 part castor to 10 parts 95-100 proof alcohol. I prefer to let this set closer to a year and at minimum 6 month. Another method that i use is making absolute castor. I use 1 part castor to 3 parts Fractionated Coconut oil (has no odor nor color). Adding a little Benzyl Benzoate, (3-10%), or Benzyl alcohol helps to loosen up the more stubborn compounds to the Fractionated Coconut oil. Benzyl alcohol is one of the compounds found in Beaver Castors. Hope this helps, Kirk.

Thanks for info Kirk (WSI). I used Vodka last year and Di-propylene Glycol. They both worked great, but do not mix with some of the lure formulas i have planned. I have already ordered the Benzyl Benzoate and B Alcohol to have on hand. Also the Fractionated Coconut oil. I never heard of any of those. smile

Jeff, Fractionated Coconut oil can be purchased online. Fractionated Coconut oil Blends well with other oil and water based formulas. You will find it to be more workable in your formulas. Kirk
