Iím debating between the black tube z trap and the blue tube tuff trap. The z trap has wire triggers and the tuff trap has a pan. Anyone have any experience with either on or even just a recommendation? Thanks

We use regular Comstocks.

We also use comstocks. However, we use a syringe pole to put the skunks down with.

You might be able to guess what I use, because they can be used for chucks, armadillos etc., multiple applications.

I like the AAC proline skunk traps. They have 1/2" mesh and keeps them from digging.

Just got another fat one today. With metal covers they don't spray, which is good when trapping chucks as sometimes the odd skunk will dive into a chuck hole. At first I was concerned that a fast door trap would make them spray, but not so. Thought the metal covers might not be enough to keep them calm, not so either. If skunks are afraid they will spray of course, but just startled is not a problem. When they are in the truck and we are eye ball to eye two feet apart, they just look or will sometimes turn the other cheek, but don't spray. I think my favorite set is a dig out under the fence when most or all of a yard is fenced, a trail set. Anything that moves in or out of the yard ends up in the cage. Just too easy.

We put contractor bags over them.

I use Comstock 2 door 9x11x18 at dens and blocked travel ways.

For baited tube traps, I like traps that I bought from the Snare Shop.

I like the snare shop ones also. Work good on squirrels with bait too.

With the Snare Shop skunk traps, donít misplace the clip that holds the door closed.
Another use for the ever present roll of electric fence wire.

I use comstocks and the 7x7 double door tomahawks. With comstocks, it is best to lay them on the side so that the trigger bar is on the bottom and makes the skunks climb over it. If it is vertical, set the triggers at the low setting or place a stick under them and force them up a bit to hit the wires. Small skunks can sneak under them on occasion.

I've made some trap covers with coil stock a few times, cover with a contractor bag ( they'll rip it up sometimes ), I've placed vinyl siding/soffit panels on each side of trap too. Most times I don't use covers, just throw some plastic over them after they are caught.

We use safeguards 7x7x24 with plastic swing panel covers and swing door traps in most all skunk set ups. Don't crowd them too much or they may dig under or to the side of your set up.

We're getting ready for skunk season. Breeding season should be starting soon here.

Have heard some negatives about small plastic traps from a number of trappers over the years with skunks, refusals. If a trapper is going to, at some point, have need for a trap to catch skunks, chucks, possum, coon and/or armadillos, finding a trap that is more universal in nature to capture a number of species might be worth looking into.
