Question for all you coyote slayers. I catch a few here an there throughout the year. My best year ever was only 67 running between 80-100 traps an alot of miles while I was laid off, which ain't bad in pa but nothing compared to the numbers of yotes some of you guys are subject too. Running a small line before an after work these days usually only nets me 20-30 a year so not a whole lot of data to go off. So my question is do you guys catch more this time of year on a territorial type set like scent post or flat sets with gland/urine or a dirt hole/baited set? I've struggled with this thought process for years I know we're going into mating season but at the same time it's the coldest nastiest time of year so you'd think they'd be hungry an more apt to check out a baited set but it's always a struggle this time of year an I usually put the traps away an go after them with cable restraints lol. I always set 2 traps at every location one of each type but even going back through my notes from many years it seems it's a 50/50 split between which sets picks up a coyote. An like I said it's hard to really tell what they prefer when I'm lucky to get 1 or 2 to come through an area every week or two. I know some of you guys put up more coyotes in a week than I do in a year lol so what's you're method thoughts or tactics in January?

I feel that the coyote gland really helps during January and February. When using it during those months I've picked up some huge mature males. I use gland lure in conjunction with bait or lure. Usually bait or lure down the hole, then gland lure an inch or two either side of the hole on a surface object. Object can be a small stick, dirt clod, tuft of grass, or anything else to your liking.
