Effective Sunday January 9th. Here are the new flat rates.

Small flat rate - $9,45. An increase of a $1.00

Medium flat rate - $16.10. An increase of 60 cents.

Large flat rate - $21.50. A DECREASE of 40 cents.

Flat rate envelope - $8.95. An increase of $1.00

Padded flat rate envelope - $9.65. An increase of $1.10.

Those are some rather hefty price increases!!! I’m sure the Region A and B rates are going up also. For me, in most cases, it is still the cheapest way to ship items.

They did drop their after Christmas rates as promised, but the new rates will more than offset that.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Really?? The listed rate for small flat rate is $8.45. Where are you paying that? Sounds like a rip off.

There are web sites that give you a discount, but they all charge a monthly or yearly service fee. Not worth it for a small shipper like me.

Stamps.com. Ship Station. Shipping Saint. Plus lots more.

You make this post every year Nancy as prices skyrocket, but this is the first time I've seen "decrease" in your price description.

First time I’ve ever seen a rate go down too!! I’m thinking the post office analyzes which boxes are used the most and adjust prices accordingly. More small rate boxes being used - let’s jump the rate a bunch. That is more than a 10% increase!!

That $21.50 is the old price on the large FR box it looks like, it stopped being a bargain years ago at one time it was the way to go. Even the regional boxes are up in price to close by states.

Where I’m located - Pacific NW - $21.50 for a large flat rate box is still a bargain for shipping traps. Especially if you pack the box efficiently. More than half the country is a postal zone 6 or 7 or 8.

Those of you in the Midwest are lucky - you have to look really hard to find a zip code that is higher than 6. Not counting Alaska. Plus, you’ve got companies like Spee Dee.

Right here at the post office. I still have several receipts that indicate $9.20 for small FR box

White17 - your local post office is ripping you off. I’d complain, if it were me. Just saying.

Maybe that was the pre-Christmas price.

I usually send two to three small flat rate boxes every week and I have also been paying $9.20 for a few months

Looking back at receipts July 6th they were $8.45

November 29th they were $9.20, December 6th they were $9.20, December 14th they were $9.20

I have been sending via UPS since my last shipment on Dec. 14th. It costs me about $1-$1.50 more and I know the package will get there and be on time

Gotta live up to the nickname...

The post office increased prices from approximately Thanksgiving to Christmas on most services, including flat rate boxes. After Christmas the price went back down.

Right, I forgot about the holiday surcharge, it was in affect from October 3 to December 26. Then the rate dropped back down to $8.45 only to be increased again 2 weeks later.

White17 - sorry I said you were getting ripped off. I made a mistake!!!

It is my short term memory that needs help. I can remember a lot of details from a fur sale in Nevada in February 1983 but I can’t remember much of anything from last month. Getting old sucks.,.,

Thanks to coondagger2 and Mike Kelley for setting the record straight.
