Anyone on here running a Minelab exquinox 800? My son is getting interested in metal detecting and thinking of handing my Garrett ace 350 over to him and upgrading. What do y’all think of this detector? My detecting is for relics in fields and old homesites, coin shooting at parks and beach hunting. Thank you.

Be advised that there will be a "learning curve" with this machine vs the Garrett. :-)

I recently upgraded from my old Garrett to the 600. Researched the difference between the 600 and 800. Basically the 600 can do everything the 800 can except for the 800 has a couple higher frequencies and a gold mode. For what I do and a couple hundred dollars difference I went with the 600. I'm very happy with it. Here's a link that shows comparisons of the 600 and 800. Hope it helps.

We dig everything but a learning curve is expected for any machine.

I started with a Garrett 400 then moved up to a Garrett AT Max.Really like my Max and have found some cool stuff. But the next one i buy will be the Nox 600.Most of my hunting is in farm fields or yards. And its still water proof.

Don't discriminate your iron out. Leave it at a low setting. Most of the time a ferrous target will give you a low pitch after a high tone or will sound good one way but will hit a low tone the other. It's just like any machine thou you have to put the time in and dig every target for a while till you learn its lingo. It's a very good machine in high trash areas due to its fast recovery delay.

For 9 years I've been digging with the Minelab X-Terra 705. I really like this device. there were many good finds.

I was using the AT Pro for a long time until it screwed me on a saltwater vacation. Got the Nox and never looked back.

I’m with ya KOSOI, great machine !! I did break down and get a Gold Monster 1000 just in case I feel like I’m around a nugget, but the 705 is my “go to”

If you come over to my house you don't need one so much old junk in the ground from past generations.

I'd like to get an 800 for dry land, but I prefer water hunting. I know the 800 is also a water machine, but it seems to drown a lot. So I'm looking at the excal 2 or cz21. Any of them would be an upgrade from my White's MXT and detectorpro headhunter underwater (which I love, btw)

And I'm seriously considering the cz21. Good luck with the Nox.

My wife and I both use the 800. It is water proof to ten feet. You can program it to set up a program that fits your needs such as a coin mode. You cannot do that with the 600. We are headed to Florida this winter. We will be happy to come by and help you learn it. You'll just need to get us on a good field. We can even get a hotel for a night or two and spend some time detecting with you.
