Dang! Had some pipes freeze up on our house the other night. Was -21*F, but -40*F with the windchill. Frozen drain in the bathroom, so just plugged in a portable heater, opened the sink cabinet doors, took off the access door to the shower mixing valve, sealed up the door and let 'er buck! Was able to thaw the lines in a couple of hours. Danged manufactured homes, they're not built right for a ND winter.

frozen pipes are a real pain. specially if they bust. my plumbing got so old i had a pipe bust without freezing. redid all of it with pex. not supposed to bust. i havnt had froze pipes in years so i dont know if really can freeze safely or not. . put a fan and heater in my partial basement to blow warm air under the bathroom where the north wind always froze stuff. i still leave the water run a bit in the bathtub though if it drops into - or single digits.

Tack some 2" insulation boards to sheets of plywood, all around the bottom of the boat. Do you have any pics of your setup?

I put the pipes from the cistern to the boat under ground but have a bit right under the boat that has to go across the gap from ground to boat where I think it froze up its insulated and its a pet pipe I just put in a couple of month ago. Should have spent more time on the insulation part of the job, but its a pretty tight space to work in and I wrongly thought .... ahhh that will do .... and it didn't. Temps are going to go up well above freezing tomorrow. So that should fix that problem then. I am going down to the spring with a couple of 6 gal jugs now to get us some water .... its good to have options. in reality it is but a minor inconvenience as I can get water any time ... just right now not out of a tap lol

When I am done with the plumbing under the boat ... just have a couple of drains left to do, I am going to insulate the heck out of it down there , if for no other reason than to make the floor a bit warmer, it being an aluminium hull with no insulation between the outer hull and the ply wood flooring it is a tad cold under foot in the spots where there is no carpet. It was not an issue when we were still in the water as that never gets that cold. but with the air getting under the hull, it does go right through it so it seems. Its one of those things that there is so much to do and so little time to do it all. I am not going to run myself rugged over it though and take things one task at a time and sometimes things don't get done in time. On the upside, we have enough firewood stacked for the next two winters to keep us warm no matter what. I have to go to SC in a couple of days and by then the water will have turned soft again up here. So all is good ...... I'll leave a couple of those jugs with soft water in the workshop trailer for the admiral for just in case when I am gone for a week or so.

It was 24 below when I went to bed last night. It dropped to -26 and than the wind switched to the SE and it was 0 when I got up. 20-30 mph wind and the snow moving pretty good. When the wind is out of the east it always feels wet here. We get snow and rain with east wind.

Same here, Mark. That dang S-SE wind really bites, but always brings a warm up!

Be careful the Pex fittings can and will burst I get lots of claims from that whenever we have a big freeze down here.
Scuba, there does probably need to be some sort of insulation around that pipe and also drip each faucet when you get a cold night. I'm always amazed at how little drip is needed to avoid freezing
