Just something I haven’t had happen before. Had a 220 belisle over a hole in the top of an old dead b’ver house. Small hole that turned and twisted and somehow that otter wiggled his way up and tried to get out only to meet the trap. Solid catch right behind the skull, in his last moments he musta tried to back down the hole far as possible and froze like an S shaped brick. Took a lot of chipping and digging trying to get him out without ruining him but he just seemed caught up on something. More chopping. Finally discovered that he had used his 5th appendage also to back down (or was just excited) . Was like a big barb on a hook. That’s all I got. No adventures at camp which is how I like it

Dang that sounds like alot of work to get him out, those houses all intertwined with branches, but you got him smile

Years and years ago I was trapping beavs on the Nowitna area. Feb. March. Went to chop a hole in the ice and no water. Moved a little but still no water. Figured they had a run somewhere coming out of the house, this was in a lake. Started chopping around the house a few feet from it. Finally found a run, but no water. Had to come back with a flashlight to look up the run and here's a dead beaver. Must have starved to death. Took him back to the cabin. But, I figured there was more starved beaver in the house. Didn't have much else to trap so I began a 2 day adventure to chop into the house. Finally got a hole into the house but alas.......no beaver.
Skinned the one I found dead in the run. No fat to speak of but he wasn't exactly skin and bones either. Fur was Ok if I remember right. He was a medium so maybe he had been kicked out the spring before and never found a mate for his house!
