Got this coyote on one of my game cameras. Appears to look at the camera and then haul tail.
I don't know if the IRs glowing spook them or what. My hearing is good and I can't hear any noise when it is recording but I know they can hear way better than us
I haven’t played with cameras for years, and I’m sure they’ve come a long ways in the last 15 years.
But, when I was playing around with them, I came to the conclusion it was the sound that they were keying in on. I had IR cameras that would spook every coyote. I had flash cameras, that if placed to 8-10 foot high and aimed down wouldnt spook coyotes. The IR cameras I had were louder than the flash cameras I had. The flash cameras would spook them if placed to close to ground level though.

Did u listen to the camera in the dark? That's when filter arm moves, to take the pics or videos in the dark. As stated above the black flash are normally the best also. But some of them can make noise also.

Not sure on that particular model if it was after dark.
Leaning more toward the dim red glow as that one was there a second or 2 and only seemed to spook when it looked directly at the camera. So much for red light not spooking critters
My particular Brownings have two “glow” lights that light up red. Sorta spooky if someone doesn’t know it’s there, lol. I’ve had coyotes run from it, and had coyotes come straight up to it to check it out. This is on video mode only. Taking pics doesn’t seem to have any effect on them. Just set the camera to 1sec and it’s like looking at a video when scrolling through them.
Red glow or low glow will definitely spook deer, fox, and coyotes. Two or more red eyes light up.
Black flash or no glow does not spook anything.
These results are all with Browning cameras.
You must have different species than we do. 50/50 on coyotes…have thousands of videos of deer, hogs, coons, possums, fox, cats, rabbits, etc…none of them spook with the two “wolf eyes” lol. It will cause a rapid heartbeat if you don’t know one of there.
I’ve made many, many videos while testing lures and baits with my Brownings Spec PS Model #BTC-8A and have NEVER had a problem with alerting coyotes! Distance has been as close as 8’.

Messing around with digital night vision I think all critters can pick up on it some. He's two I was watching my my ATN scope and Coyote reaper XL IR flood light
IMO it’s the click of the IR filter. Usually this happens with the first picture that is taken in the dark and again with the first picture that is taken in daylight. If you disassemble a trail camera, you will see what I mean. There is a little filter that slides down in front of the lens when switching from IR to regular and then again when switching back. I’ve set up cameras in the house to be able to hear this. Although it spooked him, I suspect he will be back.
The only argument I have about the "filter engaging" is in both instances the video was rolling prior to them looking directly at the camera and bolting but maybe the noise took that long to reach them
For years I noticed that the majority of coyotes caught on trail cam (still pictures) were always looking directly at the camera
Set has been nonproductive so probably pulling the trap and camera later today
I've been playing around this year with cameras on sets. First coyote I had on camera acted just like family dog wanting to play. Next few didn't even pay attention to it. 1 is only 4 ft from set and maybe 16"off ground. Another one is 7 ft from set and behind it 3 ft off the ground.
