Exactly Les. Do you do much fishing up on LOW up there? A little, but I live just a hair too close to the lake. I get tired of eating fish. And I dont ever freeze it up, I'll give it away first to someone that needs fresh...and when I fish, I just catch a meal and go home, rarely do I take a limit home.

This is my backyard. I live 5 minutes from enid lake. I'll also point out that pretty much every fish in that photo is also under the length limit. The length limit on Crappie in Enid lake is 12". This is the first I have heard about this but I'll post back here again if I find out anything else about it.
The feeding the family thing danny is kind of spotty. We have tons of large bluegill in that lake and everywhere with a limit of 100 a day. No limit if you fish in someone's pond. Also no limit in that lake on catfish. Plenty of fish they could have fed their families with. I'd love to fish Big bluegills in the South someday Mee too.Want to try them Monster ones they call Nutcrackers or something like that.Catching them on a very light rod would be a ball.

P.S. How do you know that the two people who caught them don't have "needy" families? Maybe they dont want to live on foodstamps?
Might just be scum, but how do you know? Agreed. My family growing up lived off the fish we caught to stay off the system. And never saw a reduction of panfish in that lake. WE only took our limits but always had more than our possession limit to get us through the winter months. People are quick to judge.

Let one person do it then they have to let everyone do it. Bluegill is just as good as crappie anyway. They should have known better. Do the crime do the time. Not the point of the story, but bluegill is a lot better than crappie.

Wife and I went to Wisconsin so I could catch a Muskie. Ended up at Callahan lake and I caught my Muskie, but the wife was within sight and was knocking down Bluegills the size of paper plates. Wow!!

Crappie is a winter and spring fish here. I don't know many that keep them in the summer. The meat is a bit soft in warm months. But cook them right up with the Bluegills in the winter.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

IMO, bluegill are better and perch are better than both of them. I have to be hard up for fish to keep any crappies. I always throw them back. Bluegill (at least around here) are a much firmer meat than crappie. Crappie taste OK, but are mushy compared to a bluegill. Perch, walleye, bluegill, and brook trout are my favorites in that order. In this case, part of their punishment as BTL suggested, would be to make them clean all of those fish in addition to a large fine.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

Best time to keep crappies here is through the ice.Meat is much firmer.Still not as good as Perch,,Walleye or Bluegill on my opinion.

find this thread interesting we find the crappie and bluegill firm meat where we live we throw the bass and catfish back also keep the walleye but not many where we live Except flatheads. They are actually my favorite of all freshwater fish to eat. That said we only keep them until we get 3-4 gallon bags in the freezer. They a totally different fish than channel cats. No blue cats in Iowa aside from maybe in the lower sections of the big border rivers. Aside from flathead, northern pike is my top choice. Crappies are down the list aways but that don't mean I don't want invited to the fish fry!
