I see a benefit to night latching if you use it it for its intended purpose. Which is if your trapping at night and want an easy way of knowing you're exact pan travel on every trap then I say go for it.
For me, i only trap in the daytime and can easily see exactly how much pan travel i have. I spend hours in my trap shed in the summer time to tune each and every trap so l know they are all set up the same.
