As of 2021, the army with largest number of active duty members is China, then India, then the US, followed by North Korea, then... Russia ... I think.

Russia's population was 135 million in 1975.
128 million currently.
Headed to 109 million in 2050.
They are yet another area whose birth rate is not keeping pace with death rates.
India on the other hand has gone from 619 M in 1975 to projections as the largest in 2050 at 1.657 billion

OK, I'm not quite ready to give my opinion yet, but I will say again, What is, not Who has, and yes I am talking about humans on this planet. What is the Largest Army in the world? And it dwarfs all others by a number that makes all others quake in their boots.

South Korea takes it when you add in the reserves 3.3 million

compulsory military service , it is how you stay not communist when surrounded by commies on all sides

It's not a recognized standard army, however the USA is recognized as having the world largest potential fighting force if the population being armed is considered. If a battle was to be fought on our land.

There is no comparison as of yet !

US firearm owners, point blank. Combine every other military, and firearm owning citizen and it's still not even close numbers wise. We also own the most weapons per person, per country than any other military, citizen, or any other category combined ever. Nukes are the only option to take us out in my opinion.

Arkansas87, GritGuy, Tofan, great job. The largest army in the world is the Armed American Citizen. Depending on the factors for inclusion or exclusion for instance age or gender it is between 50 million to 100 million people, as far as I can determine. It is said it is one of the reasons Hitler did not attempt an invasion on American soil. It is also widely known in the halls of congress. It has been discussed several times and that is documented. So by a reasonable presumption I/we can presume it has been discussed at the U.N. more on all of this later, after I gather my thoughts. I'll have to go out to the office to my computer to type more in depth response.
