When I started coyote trapping I used them because that’s all I had, but yeah they are not a good choice. I did catch coyote, but they are a good muskrat trap and I did use them for coon.

There's a difference between catching and holding. They are harder the second time around!!

Like yoteguts, Savell and statelinerunner have alluded to #2 sq jaw Vic’s were one of the reason trap modifications got started. There are better choices out there...but if you are going to use the old #2 sq jaw Vic... set two per set....tangle them up and hope for the best.

^^^^^ this is one way ! The older square jaws need to have the jaws ground so the levers can come up at least an inch on both sides. Change the chain laminate and base plate and they will work . But if he has plenty set 2 on separate stakes and let them tangle like Mike said .

Well - the square jawed 2's is all he has at the moment. Going to get some Bridger 650's or MB 550's or 650's when he gets some $$.
Got the new springs on and that really made an improvement - they're all leveled with about 3lbs of pan tension - we'll see...
Thanks guys!!

You use what you got, the best you can do. Swivels are your friend, 3 for sure!

In the future you might want to consider some mods if you want to continue using them for yotes ... laminated jaws, bubbled jaw tips, baseplated, and a dog upgrade. As is, they will hold yotes, just not all yotes that they connect with.

Make sure they are not the reverse jaw victors.

I coyote will tear up a old no.2 victor square. Better off using them for mink traps.

After my first year, sold all my #3 size traps. Now I run #1.75 and #2 Victors and dukes. Trapping in sand here. #3’s are rough on the fox here. No need for anything except a #2 size trap for coyotes HERE. You’re soil type and coyote size may differ.
